Information about the aircraft and pilot Lt Arthur Cundy

Image

P-51D Mustang s/n 44-15092 SX-B 'Alabama Rammer Jammer' flown by Lt. Arthur C Cundy of the 352nd FS, 353rd FG. On January 14, 1945, Cundy’s 352nd Fighter Squadron was supporting a bombing mission to Germany. B-17s of the 91st Heavy Bombardment Group were to bomb various highway bridges in Cologne. Due to an instrument failure the High Bomb Squadron bombed a target of opportunity at Jocketa located about four miles NE of Plaue. The target was a junction of two main rail road lines over a river and ravine. Results were excellent. AA fire was nil in the target area. Enemy aircraft were encountered near the target area and in the ensuing air combats, one B-17 and two P-51s were lost. U.S. fighters claimed nine enemy aircraft destroyed and five damaged. Lt. Cundy claimed one Fw-190 destroyed on this date.

On March 2, 1945, Cundy claimed 2 more Fw-190s and one Me-109 to become an ace. Lt. Cundy was killed a few days later on March 11 1945 when he crashed into the English Channel while heading out on another mission. Lt. Arthur C. Cundy was a fine fighter pilot, a gentleman of the South, and one of many whose life was cut short in the calamity of World War Two.

Can't wait to see this built. Any chance you could put a pic up of the second last decal in that set. The one with the yellow snozzer.

So i started working on this at 10am this morning, i stopped for lunch and dinner, watched an hour of tv with hanna and just finished for the night now lol.

Beautiful kit that has gone together like a dream, fit is perfect and the engineering of the kit just perfect.

Ive managed to get the engine, supercharger, carb etc assembled and painted in mr hobby black. I got the oil tank and bulkhead built, plus the main part of the cockpit and one side of the cockpit walls. Just a little more building tomorrow and i can painting.

The Packard Merlin is superbly detailed and is going to loo great once dry brushed and detail painted.

Wow... neck'n neck buddy.. my cockpit main parts are almost all painted. Just painting the floor now.
I should have some shots up later today. I'll probably have a pin wash on it tonight maybe.

I love the colour that you used on that engine though... that's excellent. Once you hit that with some washes it's going to look insane!!! :eeek:

So more progress today, got all the cockpit parts primed, some in ak grey primer, and those parts that would having chipping in alclad gloss black base. I sprayed Mr hobby tyre black on the fuel tank and also used it on the other black parts, radio gear, instrument binnacle etc
Image

Image

These were then sprayed in alclad aluminium.
Image

I then masked off the cockpit floor and sprayed Panzer aces new wood, this was then sprayed over with vallejo chipping fluid and once dry sprayed again with the tyre black. I used water, cotton buds and a burnishing pen to chip of the black in the effect i wanted, i then added random "chippings" of Panzer aces old wood to give it more of a wood effect. I reasonably happy with the effect once toned down with weathering hopefully it'll look better. I also masked of the black fuel tank etc and sprayed the interior green ( mr hobby H58) and the brown under the seat. I then set to chipping all the areas (that would be in contact with the pilot) again weathering would tone it down and tie it all together.

Image

Image

Fuselage sides were also painted as too where the sidewall detail parts (as well as chipped too)
Image

As we stand at end of play today :cheers2:

Busy afternoon modelling away and yes i know the iPad screen needs a clean :nena:
Image

All the small parts have been hand painted then dry brushed a light grey then certain areas in citadel chain mail., any small colour buttons etc picked out and decals applied. all the non black parts were then alclad aqua glossed ready for a pin wash.

Image
ImageImageImage

Engine dry brushed and glossed ready for weathering.
Image

The front end was sprayed alclad aluminium, masked :ooops: and then sprayed tamiya xf4. The proper callout is chromate yellow but theres so many different shades online (the real colour varied too) I've also seen some painted interior green and other reports the yellow darkens with age. Ive gone for this colour.
Image

Pram shopping tomorrow morning/afternoon      then ill start on the weathering when i get home :cheers2:
