Stylized Death Star base for my Tie Interceptor

Hey guys,

after finishing my Revell Tie Fighter and Interceptor I was kinda disappointed that the Interceptor didn't come with a display stand.
I must have been out of my mind when I decided that I would build my own base for it ... and make it look like the stylized surface of a star destroyer or death star.

At the beginning I was sure this project would be way over my head, but I wanted to give it a shot anyway.

I would really appreciate some feedback.

The plan is to mount it to a 10x15cm IKEA picture frame, so I started with a piece of styrene cut to the proper dimensions.

Here you can see the initial layout.


Some first layout pieces drawn and added.


Trying some tubing ideas. Not sure if I can pull that off nicely.



Started with some scribing. Unfortunately, I don't have a dedicated scribing tool, so I have to make
do with what I have:
DIY scriber from a pin and a mechanical pencil
some jewellers files
and a micro drill for making a "stopping hole" for the corner

Thanks guys. There's still a lot of scribing to do and I'm thinking about getting a
dedicated scribing tool but I'm not sure if my panel lines aren't already clean enough.

Could I get a significantly better result with e.g. the Tamiya scriber?

Maybe, but it's also worth mentioning that the model itself used in the film was little more than a giant kitbash. Foam and plastic in some random patterns.



I have a Trumpeter scriber that I've only used once (it worked well), otherwise the back edge of an 11 hobby blade works, too. It's looking great so far, just load it up with greebles until you feel happy.

Thanks Lysus. I'm on constant lookout for greeblies now.
I just don't want to overdo it. In the end it shouldn't distract from the model itself too much.

Couldn't resist and ordered the Tamiya scriber, that should arrive today.

Thanks man. Haven't worked on that for a while. But since I found out that I can cut/score sheet styrene with my cutting plotter this should progress a lot faster and more accurate.
