Republic P-47D-22 Thunderbolt 'Razorback'

Post by newpapajack »

Hi guys, some pics of my latest finished build.

'Spirit of Crawford County Missouri' was one of a few aircraft in the 56th FG which were part funded by particular places in the US. I found some shots and info on the plane from here if you're interested in more history: http://cubamomurals.com/2013/05/the-cit ... ter-plane/ This website also contained some excellent images which i used to modify the livery on the aircraft. Here's the pic i used most as reference. This image was taken before takeoff of the plane's final mission, unfortunately it was shot down and not seen again :(

I used a clay wash and oils to weather and grime, then some light chipping to finish. I used Hataka and Tamiya acrylic paints. Its the Academy 1/72 model which came in a twin-pack with the FW190A8, a D-Day anniversary special.

P-47D-22, 63rd FS, 56th FG, Boxted, England, June 1944, flown by Lt. Oscar Cadle (KIA)

That's a beautiful Jug! :th:

Really nice job with the paint work and weathering. At first I thought it was 1:48.

Thanks Olli :) I recommend the kit if you haven't done it yet. Only thing needed altering was the undercarriage - way too long so had to shorten it by nearly 5mm!

Thanks Fabian :) it's the perfect scale for me given my lack of storage space. Saying that I have been tempted by the Tamiya 1/32 Mossie hehe.
