'Cruel Lady', aka Achzarit , Israel Heavy APC , 1/35 Diorama

Post by rodrant »

Well , I was a little bored after I finished the Me163 B , so and still with some days and weeks before Christmas Hollidays and taking advantage of a long weekend her in Portugal , I decided to make a late entry on this GB :-) , also must clear some space on the stash for the new arrivals

I will be making this one :

Image

Will add this Israeli Infantry sets from BlackDog , some acessories and a Reality in scale small Midle east wall to make some display ...

Image

The box and sprues :

Image

Clear parts

Image

Rubber tracks :-( , but they seem good quality

Image

Decals and PE

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Instruction book and color schemes, will do the A version , of the Golani brigade

Image

Yesterday's work in the afternoon

Wheels and interior of the APC , well there isn't a full interior in this version , guess that MENG would imagine to do an interior kit lately , but do not know of any ...

Image

The bottom hull , will depict the access ramp rear door open

Image

Then Primed all with some left of Vallejo Black primer ...to start painting the wheels and all the bottom hull

But first see one goodie that this kit has ... a metal PE Mask for painting those Big T-55 wheels :-)

Image

The whells painted , was a very quick step this morning

Image

The interior painted white

Image

It has the places to fit the seats and everything ...think that the new Achzarit kit from MENG has all interior ...

Bottom Hull painted ...on this I painted using a mix of XF-60, XF-57, Xf-52 and some XF-64 ...well I'm not an expert in IDF colors , but seems the color isn't that wrong from the new Sinay Crey , I used the Tamiya paints because I try to use some AK left over , but no paint , so improvise this color ... I like the end result , and later will weather it adding a little withe ...

Image

so that's where I'm stand with this until now quick build . This MENG kit is a very easy to do kit , and I remember that I buy it in a Spanish shop in a promotion , and I'm happy with the result so far ...be free to comment , until next update !

Cheers ,
António

That is a fast start to the build
I searched at Meng's site and i think the Late shares the same hull as that version does come with a full interior
Seems a bit weird this one doesn't have it though

Another update, some of the work from yesterday and today ...

I weathered the interior , at least the back door ramp and the access corridor

Image

Also some weathering done already in the lower hull
Image

Used some Vallejo pigments and AK Dust effects wash

Then time to finish the upper hull

Image

some PE need to be placed ...

Image

Image

Then all the hatches , and stuff , primed and painted the upper hull

Image

At this point I will make some drybrushing using my Paint Mixture and added a little white

This is the Achazrit painted

Image

And after the dry brushing and already with the MG's mounted and to do some panel wash , using Tamiya Panel Paint Dark Brown

Image

Image

With the decals and with the Panel line wash applied
Image

Image

Will start on the figures and some accessories now

Thank you all for the nice comments , this is really a pleasant build till now ...

Trying to see how the vehicle fit in the base , and starting to get an idea on how is going to be the Diorama ...

Image

Meanwhile doing the figures ...well one of them had a feet broken , but I can fix it ...other has some issues ...the figures are great , great detail , just a thought that they could have Israeli armament , they have American M4 Assault rifles ...not an Big issue as they are used by IDF , and you can buy aftermarket , but could be nice to have the option to use Israeli armament ...then the pacaging was good , but the tip of the M4's is very fragile , and in one of the figures I can't see the tip in the box , so I willl use it like this , also and as usual in resin figures , n instructions , now one of the figures has some sort of Radio equipement , receiver, cable and two antenas , I try to place it using the box reference , still one antena is on the top of the funny helmet :-) , it is rather strange as also it has radio antena to place in the backpack ...well managed to do it ...

Image

see the standng figure ...

Image

all the parts ...

Image

the missing tip on the rifle ...

Image

the 4 squad guys ready for Primer

Image

The 'Radio Man'

Image

All acessories , wall and figures are ready to Prime , on this will use Tamiya Primer !

Image

First, to see some of the figures near the Achzarit , now already with a very diluted airbrush spray of XF-57 Buff Acrylic paint from Tamiya to see it dusty :-) , I like the technique , and think it works very well , the paint should be very diluted to achive almost to be transparent

Image

Image

Nice poses :-)

Image

This was my yesterday work at noght ...painting the Figures :

I use as reference Photos in Intranet, think I achieved a very similar color of that used by the Golani Brigade , Painted Khaki XF-49 , and use Khaki Drab to the ammo pouches and vest , the Mitznetfet ( the name of the funny hat covering the helmet ...) here is the wikipedia definition of it :

The Mitznefet (Hebrew מִצְנֶפֶת) is a helmet covering for the infantry helmet used by the Israeli Defense Forces as of 1994. It is considerably larger than the helmet, giving the impression of a militarised chef's hat. The purpose of the floppy helmet cover is to break up the distinctive outline of a helmeted head and thus assist in the camouflage of the wearer. It was originally adapted in the 1990s for guerrilla warfare in the wood and bush land of south Lebanon, later adding a two sided camo, one for desert and one for woodland terrain. The Mitznefet is easily removable, and can be attached to the helmet while folded.[1]

The term comes from the mitznefet, or turban, worn by the high priest in the Temple of Jerusalem, originating in a Hebrew language root meaning "to wrap".
:-) , we learn a lot doing models , right guys ...

So was saying that the Mitznefet was painting trying to do a three color Camo , they aren't all the same , but I do it similar in my figures .

Image

Image

Image

Today , was a working day , but after the dinner , I mange to paint the wall pieces ...the door I use only Red Primer from Tamiya to depict the usual door Primer that we see sometimes in gates all over , and not painted :-) , nice effect ...

Image

The figures got Sprayed with a Gloss Varnish ( TAmiya TS.13 Can spary) so that I then use Tamiya Dark Brown Panel Line Paint in order to enhance some of the nice details on the figures

Image

The Small acessories that I will use also had the same treatment

Image

Image

With the wash

Image

Image

Finish painting the wall , now also some Gloss coat and some wash will be done , some dust and some dark grime or something form AK , must see what I have here

Image

Hope you like so far , tomorrow I expect to start the work on the base ...still haven't an idea on how and what terrain will do ...I don't have a side walk , so should be something of a dirt road or something ...

Thanks for watching !

Last update before the final reveal ...

The figures are now ready

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Here on the wall make a mistake ...forgot the decal :-( before doing the weathering ...will do it now :

Image

Image

For the base terrain will use DAS modeling paste , some Sand for Plant decoration , something that I bought some time ago , and always usefull

Image

Looks like sugar :-)

Image

Image

Some little stones , also for Plant decoration use ,

Image

Image

Image

Let all dry for one night , then Primed all in black , and use Tamiya XF-57 Buff and XF-52 Flat Earth to paint it :

Image

Palcing the resin wall from Reality in scale ...yes it will look a bit odd , but I just want to do a quick and simple build

Image

Add pigments and vegetation :

Image

And the Final reveal here :-) :
