Airfix 1/72 P51d Mustang

Post by Paul »

You may have guessed by now, I like p51's :D 8-)

Paints: xtracylix, alclad, mr hobby, tamiya
Extras : Airfix display stand

Awesome little kit that costs just £6-£7, goes together very well, no real problems with the kit at all.

Ive gone for an inflight display and without the drop tanks as I like the p51 like that.

My first real use of my dslr, so forgive me if the pics aren't great , no hiding any mistakes with this camera that's for sure.

Came out great, not to take anything away from your build, but it seems this is a very easy kit to paint well as every example I have seen has been great. I have also built this kit, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Hey gav it depends what you call easy there's a lot of prep work involved getting s good finish with alclads.

If the first group build turns out to be ww2 then I may just have to chose a P-51 as the subject. Not that I would curry favour with the moderators or anything!

1/72 Matchbox Supermarine Walrus II (Decalling)

Yeah I have gathered that Alclads take a bit of prep to get them looking right, but personally I think I got a decent finish on mine purely using Revell Aluminium acrylic, and a satin coat over the top.

*Not intending to hi-jack your thread*

Although I agree that using alclads probably does give a better finish still.

Not a fan of using the pilots if I am honest. Prefer modelling these planes on the ground, cockpits open alot of the time.

Have put my pilot in my Seafire, and in the Hurricane as they are going to be airborne. My Mossie is going to be airborne, but will be pilotless! As the Revell kit doesn't come with one!

Awesome builds Paul and Gav!!

This is my attempt at the kit, Lots of firsts for me here, first time using enamels, metalcote, Mr surfacer and not taking over a month to build it! I think i could have done better if I'd slowed down a bit but I enjoyed this build so much that i couldn't stop myself! LOL Also first time using cellulose to help remove filler, almost shanked it! but think i recovered it okay! :bash:

As always brush painted OOB. Hope you like it and as always any comments or critique welcomed! :cheers2:

P.S. sorry about pic quality, thought i would use my phone instead of my camera.
If it looks right, it is right.
