Zvezda conversion Bf109Z-1

Post by UKscalemodeller »

Well, here it is, my finished Bf109Z-1

There was little actual information to go on to add interest to this build with little history, photos or stories of the people involved but I hope the subject itself has been interesting.

Most modellers display their work proudly on a shelf, in a cabinet or suspended from the ceiling, I unfortunately do not have the space for that and storage of a delicate model without damage is difficult. With that in mind, my little gems have their own home made ‘hangar’ (a gloss black box with a ‘real velour’ insert)

Image

I intend for all my models to have one until I get somewhere to display them

Image

It is a nice snug fit but I have yet to make the wing insert to hold the model in place if tipped upside down.

Image

Overall I am pleased with the result of my efforts and although I wasn’t convinced by the idea of it being all over RLM02 I think it looks great

Thanks to photo etch, this is the best cockpit and canopy I have ever done

Image
Image

The underwing gondolas are not as good as I would have hoped but I will not let that detract from my enjoyment of the model

Image

I think she looks impressive overall

Image

And I learned new skills

Image

I hope you have enjoyed watching this come together as much as I have.

thank you for all the encouragement.

Just a box made from MDF and LOTS of glue, the insert is cardboard covered with velour. I wanted a grey colour as it was for a German aircraft (I have red for the Russian ones) but was running out of time and they only had gold.

Great work! You can't tell it's 2 kits put together, looks like a single kit. A testament to your scratch building, well done!

Thanks Lee, I did push, sometimes beyond what I am (currently) capable of.

But compared to my first effort (the i-16) this is lightyears ahead.
Am SO chuffed with it.

I loved this thing from day one Ian.
The effort involved in mating these was not for the novice and you smacked it on the head and said HA!
Then you took it the extra mile with the dummy canopy and the gondolas.
Then the wingtip lights.... on and on.... it really was a journey.
Well done.
Many thumbs!! :thumb1: :thumb1: :thumb1: :thumb1: :thumb1: :thumb1:

Thank you my friend. It certainly was a learning experience and it was fun to push my skills. the result is not only a model I am finally happy with but hopefully me being a more accomplished modeler.

The cockpit is a real beauty, as is the rest of the plane and the storage box! The cut n shut conversion does not show at all, if you didn't tell people I'm sure there'd be an awful lot of people trying to find the kit for sale - I know I'd want one!
