Hobby Boss. M4 High Speed Tractor

Post by schweinhund227 »

Hello guys, Sorry no A/C for this first ISM GB!

I picked the M4 HST. To compliment my 204mm and 155mm towed Howitzer !
The 8" is built and I will use this build to force me to start the Long Tom and have my fav. big guns displayed once and for all! And that means I will need another HST later on...

Good luck to all!

This kit comes with an Engine and photo etch! And that's why I will do this one OOTB.

I will do an In box Review before I start it See you guys all later.

I like the other HST Hobby Boss released with this one a few years back... Has it was Geared towards the 90mm AA gun the U.S. was using back then.... but the 90mm Gun was never made in 1/35th. Wonder why they would release a Tractor for it when there is no Gun to go with it ??? .... and basically what the difference is .... is the AMMO box at the rear of the vehicle !!! made for the 90mm !!! weird one hey ?
Look cool but not as cool as towing its own Gun !!! oh well Hobby Boss get on with it !!!

the 90mm Gun looked at good if not better then the German Flak 88 !!!

Lets pray they release the gun sometime soon ???

Hey people, I started the build and had some issues!

Nothing to worry about I saved the day... Before the glue was hard I was able to fix my BooBoo!

It pays to follow the instructions sometimes!

Anyway....

The large ejector pin marks on both Sponsons mentioned during the inbox review video had to be sanded down! They were highly visible even after the Crew seats and Cabs were dry fitted

So! Keep that in mind If you ever purchase this kit! They aren't hard to fade away but none the less !

Image

Here they are after sanding them down!

The engine bays is blend! Those side walls should be Ribbed! And my next step is to Add a few strips of Evergreen Styrene to boost the details a bit! While trying to save a few dollars!

Image

You can see there is a few holes from the Suspension Assembly showing throu and that's what I will try to hide with a few well placed Ribs to simulate what should be there in the first place!

Image

Next I will detail the engine! There are a few lines and other hoses missing that will help it play the part!

Image

Image

Take care guys!

I'll post an update by the week end to show whete I am at!

Looking good mate.

Does the M4 HST share running gear with the Stuart tank do you know? Looks like a similar bogie/track layout to the Stuart.

Thanks guys .... I finally found some replacement tracks last night!!! Not exactly the ones I was after but they will do just fine !!! they are a kit on their own... and they have one side with Duckbills extenders.

AFV Club T-48 M4 tracks movable !! 3 or 4 parts per shoe !!! LOL Enough to test you Sanity !
The Tractor will be built by the time I get them so... I might have time to start the Long Tom as well ??

its well worth the money.... looks like Trumpeter is trying to give them away...they are so cheap !
LOL

if you plan to get either the 204mm M115 or 155mm M59 Long Tom Towed Howitzers... The HST is a must... look for those gun under AFV Club and you should get a few good deals on Ebay or maybe some online stores still have them in stock.... Older technologies... but still the only game in town Until Hobby Boss wakes up and gives us brand new Gun Kits including that AA 90mm we crave for !!!

Take care guys and see you around !

Thanks for the support !

When I get to the tracks I will need it for sure !!! LOL :shhh:

Progress are slow as I am dealing with ever growing numbers of Ejector pin marks!:
My GOd! I migth have to redo my in box Review! LOL. :boom: :eeek:

So I build slower and let the putty dry hard before sanding down all the panels requiring fixing!

I will do a video update during the Weekend
Stay tuned!

Later lads. :thumb2:

Of course I could have bought the Photo etch Canvas straps for the Canvas Top to go on the Ammo Bustle and call it quit! But I rather show off the interior and having to deal with stuff like that is.... Annoying ! especially for a kit from 2007! :violin: Woinnn !

Its a good kit, don't get me wrong and a little sanding here and there is Ok ! and to be expected...
but when it slows you down by Days.... having to wait for Putty to cure !!! It gets ""long"" after a while. LOL

its Weird they took the time to work out some of the ejector pins marks and move them away from some of the parts and onto the Sprue Gates... and not so much on other parts of the mould ?
weird !

Oh well.... just be aware of this.... if you plan to purchase one of these...
I will explain in more details during the Video Update !

As some of you may know... I had some parts with VOIDS !!! so I sanded down the part to enable
me to insert a piece of styrene and start reshaping it the way it should be !!!

Image

and now with the Parts Repaired.... I can pick and chose what I want for AMMO !!!
155mm or 204mm

I hope the other kits out there....are not like this one ??
I hope !

The Engine Roof is sanded and I thought I was on a Roll !

Image

until I hit the Dashboard !

Image

Really ???

Hobby Boss should have Rotated this part 180 degrees Top to Bottom to have the Ejectors on the Bad side.... not the Good side !!! DOH !

More sanding ! and its all around Details.. which will for the most parts disappear !
Hobby Boss is taking a Downward Spiral in my book !!! Sorry guys if you like them...
This isn't one of their better kits....

:cheers2: 48th Around The sun +1day

Hey guys! I usually don't like to post back to back but it seems this tread has grown cold!

Screw ups with the paints slowed me down to a crawl! (my fault)
And I am not going to talk about the Ejector pin marks Galore I had to deal with!

if you don't like Ejecor pin marks? Don't buy this kit!

Image

I re-painted everything and I am letting it all cure for a few days!

Then some "Lite" shading and onward with AKi weathering products!

The 204mm M115 was re-painted as well to match the Tractor's color

I will be Starting the M59 155mm Long Tom shortly!
If I recall correctly? It too! Suffers from EPM. (Much older kit thou!)

Anyway! Tak care all!

Used the wrong "make" and the "Color tone" was way off!
Twice! :eeek: Pissed me off! So I went out and bought new paints! So all is good now!

I even assembled the Cab onto the Lower hull! I am almost back on track!

Speaking of tracks! I just received my Duck Bill T-48 M4 movable tracks replacement set from AFV Club! Very complicated assembly ! Ouch! I'll either be Blind or insane after those are finished!

more pictures soon!

Enjoy Canada day mate :-) I have to suffer 4 July. Being British in America during 4th July feels a bit out of place. Mind you I run around in my kilt screaming "FREEDOM" which probably does not help things. I will be sharing a drink with you on Monday though. My Mums side (Bless her) is Canadian and my Uncle served as a "Mountie" Still got relatives up there.

Looking forward to seeing more pictures on this too mate and thanks for understanding :-)

Don't get me wrong I'm all for country's celebrating there own day or what have you but I rather he learned about our own country's achievements like remembrance day and V.E day which they did nothing off the latter I told him all about it and his grandad who served it the war surely we should celebrate these days?

Sorry rant over.

Ok ! and now Back to our Normal Programming !!!

I have to use my latest YT video in order to show some progress I have made on the Hight Speed Tractor !

Its a two part video so... if you don't care much about the Multi Culti Question and Answer part... you can skip it !!!
:thumb2: but you might be missing out on something BIG ! LOL which I Scratch-built 20 years ago !

oh The nice set of AFV Club movable tracks I bought especially for this kit !!! Which everybody was talking about ""on line""..... Telling us all it would fit no problem ??? Yeah right ! Need to know INFO guys! THEY DON'T fit the HB kit !!!

The sprockets on the Hobby Boss are too narrow ! They will fit every brand of M4 or M3 Suspensions out there but not the Hobby Boss ! and I won't be buying another set of A.M. Sprocket just for that build ! So this is Another Nail in this Project's Coffin ! oh did I say I hate this project!

That's why I took out the T-62 Mod62 again and started to finish it !!! at least to bring it where I first wanted it !
so... Gloss coat on ! and then more paint ! as intended on my first plan !

I will be glad when this kit is done ! the HST that is !!!

Man ! what a bummer of a kit !!! fighting me every step of the way !!!
