GWH F-15 video build with Paul. Here is the kit and the spruces. My son (when he can) and I will be building this kit in conjunction with Paul's videos. We are going to try and keep up. This will be our first jet build. :eeek:

Instructions did not come with the correction sheet for part 6 that was included with Paul's kit.

I only had time last night to drill out the holes on the handles of the seats. I used a dremel tool to clean up the rest. I should be able to put seats together tonight.

That's quite the set up George, your work bench I mean.
Both Paul and I are terrible for looking at work areas. It's like porn to us haha.
That's a great start buddy, I haven't checked Paul's threspad out but it looks as though this will bean cool build to watch.

Thanks. This spring i want to put a spray booth area on the right side of the bench. A friend of mine is a heating/cooling specialist and I think we can get a small exhaust fan and some tubing and come up with a good ventilation system to vent outside. This is in the corner of our basement.

All of the seats are built. I did have the same gap as Paul in the video. I have not filled the gap yet but will before painting. I am waiting for my Vallejo putty to arrive. I did notice that when I tried to dry fit the seats into the cockpit the holes did not line up with the pegs. They are off by about the gap in the seats? I should still be able to glue seats in after painting.

Image

Here is the cockpit assembly parts completed.

Image

Everything ready for paint. I will also cut out all the parts that need to be painted as Paul did in his video.

What a great kit and a great build!

I'll have to twist the wife's arm to watch Paul's 2nd part video tonight after dinner instead of our Friday night movie....heh heh heh.

Great workshop setup too George - I'm about to build a set of shelves this weekend very similar to your own for my growing collection of paints. Seem to be buying 5-10 jars a week at this rate and only on my 4th model!

Looking forward to more updates!

I got all the cockpit and seats painted according to Pauls video. I painted the cockpit in Tamiya XF-54(Dark Sea Gray) and XF-1(black) but because Tamiya paints don't brush well, I used Model Master Dark Gull Grey #1740 on the seats. The colors were really close. I hope to get some of the decals on the instrument panels later tonight.

Thanks everyone!! Well I had to borrow the Hubble Telescope from NASA but I got all 40 decals on the instrument panel. I'm not sure what was more trying, the decals or my son running around with his trombone trying to play it. (While I'm putting the decal on.) He just got it from school on Friday with lessons starting on Monday. :eeek: I sprayed the instrument panels with a coat of gloss after I was done with the decals. It was fun. I've never put that many decals on in my whole life. (With a lot more to go). Paul, did you put the decals on the side of the cockpit seats? I don't recall hearing that in the video.

That looks like equal parts fun and tedium! Did you just water slide them on or use Micro set or similar? I find the smaller decals (on 1/72 aircraft at least) extremely frustrating to use...

Thanks Paul. I will put them on tonight.
Chris, I used Paul's method from the video. I put a couple of drops of the micro set in a small dish with some water, damped the area with the mixture, applied the decal. When I got it where I wanted it I used a Q tip to take away the excess water. I dampened the decal with the micro sol and let it sit for about 30 seconds and used the Q tip to push the decal into the instrument panel recess turning the Q tip as I applied pressure. As long as you do not have too much micro sol on it won't move but pushed the decal into the panel recess. At 1/72 scale you will probably need to use the Tamiya Q tips with the pointed tip. Thanks. I watched the video last night and was able to get a few things completed. I had already applied a gloss coat to all the cockpit parts in inticapation of applying a wash. As Paul did in the video I apply another coat of gloss over the instrument panels only. Here are the results.

Image

After that I started to dry brush the cockpit. I used Taymiya XF-66 since i did not have Mr Hobby 334. This were my problems began. On the cockpit side instrument panels there is two hoses, as I was dry brushing that panel one of the hoses broke off and flew somewhere. After about 10 minutes of searching I found it. I should have stopped there and fixed it tomorrow. It was a sign of bad Karma. I glued the hose back on with super glue and in the process touched the side of the cockpit next to the panel. It was very visible. I fixed it by scraping off the glue with the tip of a knife and then touched up the paint. I finished dry brushiong all the parts. I should have quit there but wanted to get it posted to the thread. I took some pictures and while in the process dropped my ipad on the cockpit and broke off the railing where the seat slides in. In Pauls first video he almost broke his railing off, but glued it back on. The drama's of modelling, but all is well and fixed. I will finish the rest this weekend.

Here is the Cockpit with all the washes and buttons painted. I used a mix of gray oil paint and turpenoid for around the panels. The picture does not show the gray wash very well.
Image

Here is the side panels and instrument panels with a black wash added.

Image

Here is all of the cockpit, side panels, and instrument panels installed. At the end of the video Paul talks about a gap or seam line on the top of the fuselage. I have a seam on the top fuselage and a little gap on the bottom half (2nd photo). It will be fun trying to make that line disappear without losing parts of the panel lines. The bottom will be a lot easier there is only one panel line. See you after the next video. Any suggestions on the seam with the panel line are welcome. Thanks George :)
