Wheels and tracks are on , i need to tone down the pigments on the tracks as its a bit red but i always get the basic colours on the tracks before i put them on and fine tune them in place, but im happy with the fit and the detail for rubber bands, once they have some mud and dust tones i think they will look fine.
Jobs left to do are paint and attach the on-board tools and cables jacketc, add some mud and dust oil and stains, tone down with some flat , then start the rail car.

Wow thanks , really thanks ,i dont know what to say :eeek: i just hope i can do the old girl justice and not over cook it , ive been looking at all the tigers being built and people are really pulling the stops out, the attention to detail on some of the tigers being built in this SIG are all inspiring and mike after our little chat the other day , im definitely going for the dio just hope i dont bite off more than i can chew and hopefully get it done in time.

spent last night adjusting the colour of the tracks , getting basic colours on the tools and equipment ready for "ageing in", spare track links on the turret are attached , so nearly time for some OPR once everything is in place , then some basic dirt and mud, final dusting will be done when in scene

on the plus side feeding my tiger stock these arrived today one for me and one for my brother , he has me building his aces so far i have done him gallands 109 and erich topps U-boat and now he wants witties tiger

Now that's a SiG idea.... An ace of aces build.
Hmmmm. :th: :th: :th:
Those are excellent pieces too.
After my order for that Wittmann tiger went missing in the post I decided that I don't need it anyway as I've already built it. So no great loss.
I'll enjoy seeing how everyone else deals with the kit though.

ok tiger is at the STOP stage before i totally over cook it , thinking i may have already though, just a couple of clamps to add , should of added them at a earlier stage but have decided now to add etch clamps where the last tools were, im going to start the rail car and the final weathering when the two are together,

Lol Mike ,im thinking the same its ummmm a tad on the long side might have to rethink the whole dio idea, id love to go with my plan but would not have anywhere to place such a "thing" in my house, back to the thinky board . anyway , more work done almost ready to paint .

So I'm guessing that the flat bed was a bit easier to assemble than the tiger ;)
Wow that was fast.
Normally the tiger was stored on the flat bed with the combat tracks rolled up and sitting in front of it on the bed. Along with any crew gear and assorted crap.
It would fill that area and give e scene some balance too.

thanks russ :cheers2: and yep mike , the plattformwagen sailed together beautifully , parts needed a fair bit of clean up but in hindsight the majority could of been left as lots are out of view , but i like to know its been prepped properly, (OCD)

i have a set of afv combat tracks , but they are the link and length type and will take a good few hours but will go on the wagon as stated , so i think with the rolled up tracks , some drums and fuel cans and other bits and bobs to fill out she should look ok , :cheers2:

Wood , i hate painting wood , i think because there are so many variations in colour types of wood etc its always given me a headache especially onboard tool handles , i just hate it , ive bought a million products/books to simulate wood over the years but nothing i do looks right, and with the railcar decking being planks i cant avoid it now,

after a matt black primer i used a straight edge as a stencil to edge off each plank and airbrushed a medium grey onto each plank allowing the black to poke through on one edge, already its started to give it a planked look.

Image

i used AK's winter streaking grime for yellow vehicles with a flat square brush the width of the plank and gave a light brush over each plank in one stroke,

Image

ill leave it to dry then go back over with winter grime for green vehicles to add some brownish tones , but here is the result with just the 2 steps as mentioned above

Image

and some other shots

Those colours are really good Jamie, I think that your experiment worked out bud. If you hit the deck with a burnt umber wash at the end it should give it that tarred rail tie look to it, if you're going in that direction.
Is there a wood texture on those planks? It's hard to see in the photos.

yeah there is a wood texture but its very thin , it should just come out with a dark wash and some dry brushing should reveal it , the burnt umber sounds like a good idea mike, with some stains and oil, muddy prints and all the kit and tracks it should hide most of the wood and what is visible should just cut it lol , seriously i need to learn wood its a massive plank in my side

more progress ,, some filters added to the wood , some burnt umber oils heavily diluted were washed along the grain and some black carefully painted along the edge of each plank to seperate them, some dust and oil stains ill do once the oils have dried properly , its coming.
The loading block support and ramp have had a base grey applied and chipping done, they need filters grime and streaks and ill post shade them too.

the bogies and the frame of the wagon have had a coat of klear ready for decals and all the rail grime stages to come.

some piccys..

decals time , jesus wept i thought this would be easy as there is not much to putting decals on a flat surface , boy was i wrong , the carrier film for the decals was sooo thin , once wet and ready to move the slightest touch would see the decals crack or split , even if the decal was moved to the edge of the backing paper it would curl round the back or fold over , anyway after about 5 hours of sweating i managed to get them all on without throwing it at the wall or doing jermaines panzer fist and smashing it to oblivion, the plus side is the decals have sucked down really smooth, sealed with clear and the first stages of grime and brake dust gone on

will be starting the track tomorrow while i decide how to get a better result on the wagon , needs more doing to it yet
