What do you think the ones on the bench are lol give me some credit ha ha, I don't just empty them on the bench randomly picking them up licking them, the ones on the bench are used, but they have two ends and I'll often use one end put it done and then pick up one thinking it's the one I just had :hi:

That is a beaut Paul. That thing just slammed itself together eh?

Sheesh. And Lee says I have too much time.

I haven't done anything really in days. :wall:
Both kids are sick and being... well kids.
So Not a lot of time.

So it may not look like much has been done, but I've added all the small pe parts as well as the rest of the smaller plastic "fittings". I've also filled, sanded and polished anything that needed it (which wasn't much). The HUD was glued in position and the masked canopies glued in place too.

Tomorrow the first paint hits the canopy and then primer. :th:

Holy sweet mother of crap! (east coast nova scotian expression)
That is a magnificent bird Paul.
Big too.
Even now it's hard to stop looking at her.
Painting her seems almost offensive... but yet sooo right.

Paul - 2 questions if I may ask

Given how quickly you have build this kit would you say it is a great kit for people to introduce themselves to 1/48 aircraft, in other words as a first 1/48 build?

I notice on reviews that the kit has markings for the soviet navy, is this actually the case and if so does the kit come with an arrestor hook as it would be an automatic purchase for me if it does? - edit, I think I was looking at there previous MIG release :

Hope the painting is going well :cheers2:

Yes I would say its a perfect intro to 1/48 it's a very easy kit to assemble with no real fit issues bar those engine cowling underneath.

As for the markings I'll have to look through the box as I can't remember, same for the arrestor hook, I'll have a look when I go in the cave in a bit :th:

Paul, I hope you and Hanna are feeling better!!! Does she have kidney stones??? If so have her try some of the stuff that Lenny likes to drink, diet coke, I heard that the acids (what ever is in it) dissolves it or at least softens it.

Hope your both feeling better soon. Me and mine are just getting over a nasty sickness bug that swept through the house. Hence my late start to this GB. Hoping to join in the next day or two.

The Mig is looking awesome so far. Love the cockpit. I'm gonna be doing the Fulcrum B from Academy. Not as detailed as yours but a nice kit nonetheless. Look forward to the rest of the build! :thumb1:

Well I got thy preshading done. Lol a good tip when you have had a few fingers (well more like a fist) of a nice 12 year old single malt, maybe attempting preshading isn't the best idea lmao, got there in the end, of the three panel lines I could see I just painted the middle one lol. :cheers2:

The cockpit received its inner colour before priming.

Image

It's was then primed in Vallejo grey primer and preshaded using tamiya xf1 :th:

well they say pre-shading is supposed to be random.. probably the best way to do it is after a few frosty beverages.. lmao ;)

As for akan yes I have the set for this plane, they spray fantastically, my first coat goes on tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing in on the aircraft.

Sheesh you could go blind doing those.
Maybe it would have been easier to paint it all black and then post shade the panels after?

They only took an hour to spray

So tonight I got the base colours down

Image

Love that green

Image

Airbrushed the underside and the top where needed in the akan 73092 light grey

Image

I did then plan to mask off the Camo pattern for the akan 73093 grey/green using white tack, but I thought sod it and did it freehand. Gotta say the akan paint sprays beautifully, probably the nicest paint I've ever airbrushed, silky smooth like xtracrylix and even though they are as thin as xtracrylix they can be sprayed in thicker coats, and it dries real fast too.
Sprayed at 25psi and thinned with 10% ultimate thinner they went down very nice with no overspray between colours. The only thing I will say is the paint sticks like hell in the airbrush making cleanup a little more intensive than usual, but the ultimate airbrush cleaner made short work of it, really loving these new products, can't wait to see what's released next :th: Also very happy I ordered the navy colour set for the corsair from akan too

The Camo pattern

Image

My freehand Camo, love the subtle colours, iconic of the mig.

Still bits to touch up and the FS grey on the nose and black panels to spray, plus I need to fade the paintwork in the panel centres.

Cheers fellas

I'm fairly new to jets so most of this is alien to me.

Anyway today I touched up any areas that needed it then set to adding some mottled/worn looks to ares using lighter and darker tones of the akan paints, luckily there a darker grey and green in the set and I just heavily thinned for the lighter tone.

I'm not sure how well the effect shows up on camera

Jeese Paul... every time I see this thing I tingle.
You're making it really hard for me to keep my F16 in the stash right now.
Maybe I'll just go peak at it... open the box and sniff.

Looks like you've got quite the handle on jets if you ask me. That thing is looking SHARP!!!

Right ok so, I've added abit more mottling to the green, I've sorted the hard line between the green and grey on the front of the fuselage and masked and sprayed the black anti glare strip and the various FS grey the the tails tops and wing edges and finally the nosecone, there's still a few more panels to spray, ll get to these tomorrow. I also masked and sprayed the metal steel colour to the tail horizontal stabilizers, I used alclad steel for this.

This is the second time I sprayed the nose and glare strip, after having a problem with the Vallejo primer pulling off with the masking tape :eeek: yes I know, first time it's happened to me, but I have theory. I'll start a new thread about it.
