i have a few kits on the bench mainly my Dml bf109 but ive stalled on it, im up to pre shade stage but i have lost my mojo for it for now so its on the back burner, been getting some figures done , last one is completed so while we wait for the tiger sig build ive started another figure just to keep my brushes wet , another 120mm Jeff shui figure this time a Fallschirmjäger, splinter jump smock this time so as i have never painted one this will be .....errrr fun
figure was primed black and dry brushed in white , his trousers have had the first light coats of heavily thinned life color field grey 2
metal parts same as the last figure , primed black, silver and steel colours airbrushed on , hairspray then german grey on top

figure was cut from the resin sprue remains and cleaned up with a test fit of arms and as usual from jeff shui it all fits real nice.

little bit more progress a light wash for the jump smock , im using life color german uniform set 2 light green , looks a bit odd in the pot but im going with it as i think it will be a good colour match once a few layers have gone down

the three samples of splinter, i have seen 1 and 3 before i was going to do no.1 and use tropical tan as a base but i have got a helmet cover in no.3 so i am going to try that base colour
1-
2-
3-
and some eyes and first layer of oils to the face

That's a good looking kit you got there. Judging by your last figure it should turn out a stunner.

and some more work on the figure, I carried on using the life colour light green base as mentioned earlier and added the splinter cammo with a mixture of greens and browns which ill go into at a later date in this build.
sadly i didn't take any pictures as i laid the pattern down but i will be working on two more figures as they will be the main focus of a small dio so i will be doing another splinter smock.
here is the smock pattern painted looks too bright but will settle down after a wash
and a test fit of head and boots

Cheers Sturm, I've never bothered with figures just because my attempts have been basically pretty much basic, paint um grey, flesh on the face then dark wash that was it, but i got fed up looking at other peoples figures thinking damn how can they do it so i set myself the challenge of getting some done, this is my 5th 1/16 figure so far, I have become obsessed with figures got a 1/10 bust of the above fella and several more 1/16 and 1/35 figs in the stash.
After this build I'm going to have a crack at a dio with the dragon ambush at potaeu figures and a M8 greyhound as from the famous bit of footage,
I just think my whole approach to figures was wrong and im having fun learning how to paint the little buggers

starting to do some work on the faces, several attempts at the eyes later and i think i better leave it now as i dont think i can get them any better the moulding makes them hard to get even, will add more flesh tones once im happy the eyes are dry

A bit more oil down on the SS guys face
I have started to shade his trousers with some lighter shades of the base olive green by adding a drop of beige to the mix and a drop of black for the shadows , ill keep going over them till im happy with the effect
his poncho i have given a wash in sepia ink and mixed some base us drab with black for the shadows ill refine the highlights and matt it out a bit i want a dull satin look to the poncho
my missus has suggested a trip to hobbycraft as she needs to have a look round for something she needs for her business, i laughed and said you better arm your self with a few hundred quid if you want me to come i need dio supplies (rubs hands) we go in 2 days , perfect timing

well went to hobby craft bristol,,,,,, what a complete waste of time ,seriously what a crock of shite, no joking i have more kits in my shed than what they had in the entire store , the only dio supplies was a roll of green felt for grass and that reindeer moss crap that looks like fluorescent sponge and a few bags of railway ballast thats it, popped in to the one in swindon while passing a year ago and it was loaded with stuff everything you could think of detail up sets to raw materials for dio building , shocking how one store can hold everything and another can have nothing

starting to lay down the pattern on the Fallschirmjager
so the figure is primed in black then dry brushed in foundation white to bring out the highlights and detail,
then i apply 3 or 4 light coats of heavily thinned 70.821 German cam beige
the brown splinter pattern is drawn on with a 000 series 7 brush using 70.872 chocolate brown ill finish the pattern this evening then add the green patches and then neaten it up a bit before the next phase

did a bit more work on the SS guy , i redone his sleeves they still need a little work but im happy with the colours they are very close to my own plain tree smock that i have,
i also did a bit more work with oils to the face , i made some cigarettes for them as the resin supplied ones are not worth the effort to remove and clean up from the gate mold whatever you call it, so some stretched sprue is easier
im not going to get much time on the figures this weekend so wont get much done but i need to finish the splinter smock just re define the folds a bit, then start on the leather work for both figures, i am still waiting for supplies for base to arrive so i can start getting a move on with it i have an idea how i want the base but wont go into too much detail about that as the pictures of what ill be doing will better explain it

Started making up the base , its a basic 8x8 picture frame , a block of Styrofoam that i have cut , the basic idea is to have the 3 of them arranged either facing each other or the 3 of them observing something i haven't decided exactly what yet as i keep changing my mind
The dio will manly be a basic one with some slightly uneven ground, a brick wall to the rear some bush up against the wall some mud grass a puddle maybe and some debris, well ive made a start

i decided i didnt like the wall , the bricks are too big and too dungeon and dragony so i had a go at another , reduced the size of the bricks to a more red brick farm wall type size , ill top it off
old wall
new wall

sealed the base with pva and gave it a coat of black primer , ive got some grass matt and some gravely stuff for the standing area but before i start that bit i give the brick wall its base colours

bit more work on the base, i added some general purpose wood filler to the front section (its all i had to hand) and coated the rest with PVA glue,
i have a old rock salt tube full of gravel in several sizes from sand grains right up to small stones that i sprinkled on to the filler and along the wall , this is then given more coats of watered down PVA to lock the gravel in ready for paint,
the problem i have with the base is that i didnt plan and just went off the cuff and i made the section for the wall too thick , i have a problem so i was going to cut the upper bricks to scale thickness then slope it off at the back out of sight to give the illusion of a single brick thick wall , but its way to much hassle so opted to try hide it and slapped some more filler to look like the cement where bricks have come off ill paint that up to match the walls cement
last summer i had to reduce a large hedge at my mums place and as it was a drastic reduction i found loads and loads of these dead bits inside the hedge that i kept as i thought they would make great trees at some point, so i gave it a coat of PVA then ill try paint it up tree style
