Here is the pilots seat and front wheel well made up...



Main gear wells parts being readied for assembly...

After a black prime cote, wheel wells were treated to Lifecolors med sea grey and I've started on the props...





Cockpit gets Tamiya Nato Black, which as you know is a very dark green, well it is too me....



A bit more for the spinners..



The tiny cockpit for a rather large aircraft, dry brushed and a bit of colour...







Unfortunately (or not) we ain't gonna see a lot when the fuselage is assembled i think, we'll see....I'm a bit away from that yet

Wing tip nav lights... I guess that you'll know how is goes but if not......
1:72 might be a bit a small scale for me but I'm going have a go regardless. This is one a of my favorite tricks, in fact it's probirly one of the first i got to grips with on returning back a couple of years back.
Cut out where the light is going to be situated. Many modern kits have wing tip light lens as part of the clear sprue if not then you'll have to cut the wing tip out, you can also use this to replace the kit lens. You'll also need a piece of clear sprue larger than the cut out...



Next bit is straightforward, just glue the clear into the cut out. For added interest you can drill out where the light actually is behind the lens (clear part) and drop a little paint into the hole. Check your reference for colours..



When the glue has dried properly simply file, sand and buff to shine.. easy and effective...

More progress...
Weights for the front. It goes without saying that the tri-cycle undercarriage means tail-sitter, I've used some solder wire (leaded), cut up and PVAed in place. I think I've used enough



Button up fat boy..



Really quite tricky without proper locating lugs, you'll see in a min...

It's balancing act to get the correct(ish) dihedral on both wings and tail plane...

A bit of filling nothing dramatic...

Staring to look like a Gannet now..

Canopy's on and getting prepped for primer..



Primer on and a selection of colours I'll be using...



Good stuff this MIG primer, I know some people have trouble with it but it seems fine to me. Until I can get hold the Badger Styrelnez gear, it'll do for me...



After pre-shading I'm left with this. I've got into this habit of, well... it's almost pre-mottling, modulating I guess, I find its helps to break up the top coat(s). It doesn't always work out but try and try again...

I didn't like the kit for a while but it's grown on me. There's no real fit issues it's just not a "shake and bake" kit that I'm used to, now that I'm used to how these Sword kits shape up, I'll probirly go a couple more starting with a rather lovely Jet Proverst/Strikemaster they've just released.

First of all we've got Mr Hobby Aquaous H74 Sky, this really is nice lovely stuff, once you get that "sweet spot" 50/50 mix...



Not much to show as I forgot to take piccies So we'll get on with some masking...

EDSG all on and de-masked..

Looking cool mate. I like your pre-mottling idea and it shows through the paint nicely. Going to try that myself as I find that I'm a bit too ham-fisted when it comes to post-shading.

Lovely to see a Gannet getting built (beautiful plane in a strange kind of way). Great job.

That's exactly why I do that pre-shade thing, no good at post-shading either....

Decaling.... Not keen on the process, I'm not going to dwell on it, suffice to say there are on..





They actullay were really thin and I had a bit of trouble with them curling up, not only that but the instant they got wet they were ready too come off the backing paper..



Originally I was going to paint the tail plane flashes, but I couldn't get my masks right, also I'd have real trouble trying to cut out the little bee motif with anything like accuracy, so I'd didn't bother. Shame...

I first came across the Gannet at RNAS Yeovilton. I just couldn't believe how big and ugly it was. For me, it was love at first sight
