Following the outbreak of the Second World War, 92 Squadron reformed on 10 October 1939 at RAF Tangmere. Initially it flew Bristol Blenheims but in early 1940 it became operational on the Supermarine Spitfire, various marks of which it flew for the rest of the War. 92 Squadron first saw action over the Dunkirk evacuation beaches flying from RAF Croydon. During the latter stages of the Battle of Britain 92 Squadron flew from RAF Biggin Hill. The Squadron was the first into action on 15 September 1940 now known as Battle of Britain Day.

MK1B R6908/QJ-F Of Flt Lt Brian Kingcome, No 92 Sqn, Biggin Hill, November 1940.

One of the first Spitfires to go into service fitted with a mixed cannon and machine-gun armament, this aircraft was later converted to a MKV standard. After suffering damage in a low-level engagement over the Channel in one of the first actions involving BF 109Fs (of Stab./JG 53) on 9 May 1941, R6908 crash-landed back at Biggin Hill by its wounded pilot Plt Off Maitland-Thompson, and was written off. Brian Kingcome's wartime score was 8 and 3 shared destroyed, 1 shared unconfirmed destroyed, 5 probables and 13 damaged.

This is my version of R6908 QJ-F.

Built using the Tamiya 1/72 kit, paints used Humbrol and Vallejo, Eduard mask set, Eduard photo etch 'zoom' set.

Thanks for your kind comments guys :D
Yes some of the decals were less than a mm square I reckon. I'll add some pics of the underside when I get a minute.

Added the Spitfire to a base made up of polystyrene pizza tray, painted earth-mud and static grass which has had colour filters applied, the figure is an Airfix pilot from the D-Day anniversary set and the wheel chocks are from the resin Pavla models 1/72 WW2 RAF wheel chocks set. The frame is a standard cheap picture frame 6x6''.
Hope you like, feedback welcome :)

That's a sweet looking Spit, very well done. Loved the paintwork and weathering. A beautifully restrained finish, looks great for 1/72 as well.
