My first entry on this SiG will be this Revell kit (oldie...) , will do it in a Portuguese Air Force color scheme (actually all metal except for the anti glare cowling strip on the engine ...) , expect a quick build with an old kit but it is the version used after war by FAP (Portuguese Air Force )

a first update .

The kit will be this one from Revell , an old kit that I buy in my LHS , but this is the version that was used in Portugal in the 50's ...and was then used until it was replaced by the first Jet Fighters the F-84's .

Opening the box :

Image

these decals are the only aftermarket that I will be used they are from Santa Cruz and depict a P-47 D 30 from the Air Base nº3 in Tancos , the nose art depict a greyhound with a Latin inscription ' Res Non Verba' , translating means something like 'Facts, not words ' , the plane is all bare metal , only with an anti glare Olive Drab stripe in the engine :

Image

Image

A bag full of sprues ...

Image

Instructions as the old days ...three sheets of paper ...

Image

the decal sheet that I will not use !

Image

1999 kit , or at least the mould ...

Image

and lots ...tons..of Flash in the kit , I will be entertained with this one ...

Image

But very nice detail for a kit so old !

Image

Yes that is the instrument panel with all that flash around ....nice.... :wtf:

Image

about 4 sprues plus the clear one ...

Image

I start on the cockpit

Image

yuk...

Image

In the end all fitted very nice, still Ultimate sanders and my modelling knife had a lot of work removing all that spare plastic ! Still must admit that this kit fits very nicely !

Image

Image

Image

Engine and wings ready !

Image

Image

Image

Engine cowling done and fitted , wings and rear wings also added !

Image

as I mention the fit is very nice !

Image

Will end this soon :-)

Well this will be the camo scheme I'll be doing :

Image

and a photo of the real P-47 in use by Portuguese Air Force ...by the way this was the first plane used after the NAval aviation and Army aviation being united and the creation of the Portuguese Air Force , until then there were two different branches , the naval and the army one , just a curiosity ! :-)

thank you Pacheco ...yes that is the main problem as the kit for the age is quite nice and with lots of detail , but we must get doing something that it isn't Tamiya

Update 2 , this is going fast :-)

now I'm not going in very detail with the build as most of you will know all the steps on building a plane , for the Portuguese version there is this , I do not know the term in English it is an upgrade on the tail or something , I do not know exactly for what , but the early P-47 doesn't have this ...

Image

the piece

Image

to fit here ...and the antena must be not centered ...

Image

Also nice this option , after build is done we can actually close or open the canopy ...Nice :th: , but to place that little piece that support the canopy was a nightmare , as it keeps falling inside the plane and after all is closed was hard to get it out ...but manage with some patience !

Image

Image

Image

Sticky fingers ... :wall:

I mask the canopy with MAskol

Image

Prime it with my favourite primer now ...the Ultimate :-)

Image

Image

Smooth finish ...

Image

I think I will use it to paint some stuff that should be in Flat Black ...it has such a nice finish ...

Image

Now will use this Super MEtallic Color from Mr.Color ...

Image

And it is Shinny :-)

Image

What a finish ...they are not cheap this paints , but must be one of the best around ...smooth finish and seem real metal !

Image

With the Olive Drab stripe in the Engine

Image

That's it ...now to do the Panels , still do not know what to use ...

Image

And to finish the wheel bay ...must cut the wheel bay doors as Revell gives them in one piece , and to depict it open must cut it ...

Hope that you like so far ...

:cheers2:

UAU António !
Great Job so far ! And how FAST !! :jd:

Have no idea that the FAP also used P-47´s.
Have one from acadeny to built with Brazilian (FAB) colors very similar to yrs! Just adding the Green+Yellow stripes on the rudder.

Something like this:

Olá Andre :)

Yes FAP used the P-47 after war ...50 units , they were used in the 50's and was the last Piston Engine fighter, next was the F-84 , and the color scheme is similar

A Final update on this build , as it was almost complete, only decals , first I Spray with Mr Gunze Gloss Clear in Spray

Image

Image

With decals ...and some weathering done on the Olive Drab stripe to make it worn look :-)

Image

An Grey Hound ...no Pin Up here...sorry

Image

Image

panel lines with some Mig Dark wash ...

Image

and the final bench photos before the final reveal

Ok , at this point I noticed that someything happen in the decals ...that Mr Gunze Spray make a beautifull Gloss , but it is very agressive to the paints , and in this case to the decals :-( , not the best final result , but will be like this , definetly on my next build will use the Alclad Gloss for the first time , also never had any issue with the Tamiya Spray Clear paints , but this one , I must give up on them , already too many issues with them and maybe it is I that I wrongly use them or they arent adequate when mixed with sime stuff ...do not know what happen ...

so my Final reveal photos will be here :
