In between paint coats on HMS Anchusa, I built and painted another figure from the wonderful Bronco 1/35 War Correspondents set. Rob, wow - I really don't know what else to say other WOW!!

I've just tried my hand at figure painting and this largely down to the work that you shown on the forum. You've really captured the essence of the photograph and you can really picture him struggling to choose the correct words. Some people just get highlights low-lights, shadowing, textures and colour blending and you Sir are most definitely one of those people.

Just one question, do you use oils for the flesh tones or acrylics?

Alex, all figures from the war correspondent set have been painted with acrylics alone. I do use oils from time to time - the French infantry man in the figure gallery and Bill Sykes in the figure group build were done with oils - but I prefer acrylics for speed and ease of clean up. That said, the joy of oils is the ease of mixing an infinite range of colours on the palette and then blending them on the figure and the long working time the slow drying paint allows.
I am about to make a start on another figure for the group build. This will be done in acrylics with airbrush and hairy stick and I hope to be able to share in some depth my thoughts on my approach to painting figures in general and the tools and paints I use.

That would be awesome if you shared a how-to on figure painting - absolutely loved the Bill Sykes thread, so I'll be first in the queue to watch that!

I used to do a lot of oil painting years ago, but with a knife and canvas (don't fancy trying to paint the eye on a 1/35 figure with a palette knife! ). Just invested in some oils and once I have a bit more confidence with painting figures, I'll give it a go with the oils.

Really looking forward to that figure build!
