Academy 1/72 F/A-18 Hornet "Chippy Ho"

Post by Buckshot »

2nd build, still under way, a bit happier with the progress on this one. Did have some fit issues, was more confident this time using filler, but still probably didn't go as far as I should have. All learning I guess.

Started on the decals, was dreading this, but I think I've managed to get the first tail on "OK" (half a bottle of decal solvent later)

Great tail detail decal there and thanks for fixing Photobucket's link busting activity :pistols:
Really like the look of this build
Not so sure about calling the plane a "Ho" mind you

Haha thanks. Got left with a couple small wrinkles in the decal so will need to figure out how I can deal with them.

Decal 1 - Day 2...

So managed to get it looking better (whole lot more decal solution and a little white glue) Did make a little tear (semi on purpose) but in an area which will be easy to patch.

Don't know if it's my non-existent skills or what but these decals are requiring a LOT of patience.

Some progress-

Need to colour match the green to do a few small touch ups (mainly the edge and top of vertical stabs).

So, bit of a setback today, managed to lose one of the pitot tubes.... Not much I can do about that I guess.

Other than that though, legs are on, starting to look the part.

Finally completed this one. As mentioned I'm still very new to this and very much looking for advice, feedback, etc.

Did manage to improve a few skills I think and learn a few things, also quite a few things I could have done better.

Decided to move on to a much easier build for number 3, the Tamiya 1/72 F-117 which looks like a nice and simple kit (definitely in terms of decals, I need a break from those after these first two kits, lol)

Boy, I really like this
You did a fabulous job with the model, the paint, the decals, the extra details and then gave the weathering a perfect balance of used but not abused or overdone.
I am really impressed with the result :thumb2: :thumb1: :th:
