Revell's Joey Saldana Sprint Car reveal

This was my first but definitely not last Sprint Car. What a fun build! Thanks for looking!

When my boys were little, I would take them to our local paved short track to watch the races. The nights with sprint car races were some of our favorites. After the races, the drivers would let the kids sit in their cars and hand out pictures. They thought that was the greatest thing ever.

Thank Joe! That is really cool.. I grew up in the south where they raced these on the dirt and they would not let us in the pits. I bet they loved that.

Thanks Jesse! Alex Kustov posted his photo setup over at another forum and I got my ideas from him. I used a long piece of black paper that I taped to the wall and let it roll off the desk so it is the floor and backdrop of the shot. The car is actually a couple of feet away from the wall where the paper gently rolls down onto the table. My favorites were the first and last one and I think I was using a small over head LED lamp but I can't remember if I had it right on top or a little in front. The second time I tried to recreate it, I didn't like it.. it was too dark. But most of the shots are with my overhead LED shop light that is very bright about three feet above it. I'm going to perfect that little LED lamp next time because I like it the best. And on the last shot I had my iPhone's camera on the bottom instead of the top while in Landscape mode. I love that shot.. have to do more that way. I just rest the phone on the table in front of the car.

Thanks Scott! I was really impressed with the way these came out.. but still need to perfect it. The best pics were the day before when I didn't notice I didn't have the hood all the way down. Actually the first photo is from that shoot and you can see the hood is crooked.

Great tips mate, its something I really need to improve on during my build but especially for the reveal. I will definitely use this advice for my next reveal, thanks mate

TY so much for posting pics of this build, WOW does it bring back memories for me bud. When I was younger, my Uncle Ron Batt used to race all the time at the Chico, CA "Silver Dollar Speedway" here. He ran a sprint car exactly like this as #15 I think... fans all called it the "BATT MOBILE"... LOL. I remember helping him build his secondary engine in his shop many times.

Your build is amazing, very pristine and super finely detailed (especially the engine area). I hope to be able to build cars like you do someday with your help... if you would have me in your ear. The only thing I would probably add, if it were me, is some mud weathering on the tires and the fender cowlings... possibly some rust effects on the manifolds? Our track here is a dirt oval, stuff gets muddy LOL. I would also crank the front wheels to the left as if it were ripping up one of the turns.

Thanks Lloyd! This kit is inexpensive.. you should pick up a couple or more while they are still producing them. You could even get some custom decals made to match your uncles... which is a very cool story itself. This is only my 10th model so I am not that good yet. HPIGuy on YT did this car a couple of months ago and used tile grout to dirty it up.. came out great. I thought about it, and is why I didn't scuff my tires up but it looked so good I decided to keep it like it is. I've seen other guys do the wheels and tires cranked over but I'm not really sure how they did it. I'm not that good yet I've also seen guys do the weathering to the exhaust and I thought about it but the instructions called for gun metal and mine came out pretty dark. I'm still not good or experienced enough to do much more that box stock and honestly, I love doing it box stock right now too.

If you need any help or advice just ask away and I'll answer what I can or let those more experienced than me answer here
