Bandai 1/72 A-Wing Starfighter Reveal

Post by LudvigN »

The build is complete and I can easily say that I spent like 5% on building and the rest on painting, decaling and weathering. However, the build was nice and I loved every moment of it.

Some conclusions about this kit:

Positives
+ Different but astonishing modeling/assembling value
+ Exceptional fit
+ Nice surface detail
+ Alternative canopies a nice bonus
+ Possible to alternate between in flight and ground after finishing the model
+ Possible to dissasemble model to ease painting
+ Nice base, turbo laser and pilot

Negatives
- Decals are thick and uncompliant. Luckily, they are few in numbers in this kit
- Sprue attachement point is directly on the side of one of the canopies
- Price

If you're in this hobby because you love to assemble and construct a nice model from different parts, you might find yourself disappointed since the assembly is so swift and intuitive. Time constructing per currency is very low. I did love how the kit went together and was very fascinated by the brilliant design in how the parts fit and hide seams, spruegates and panels. If you're like me and love to spend time on painting and weathering and creating stories around your models, you will love this kit. Too bad asian companies cant use the same technology in decals as european companies do. Aftermarket perhaps? 8-)

Anyway, im pleased with the outcome and the finished model. For once, past construction/filling/sanding mistakes won't bother me when I look at a model! :D

I can only recommend this kit and I wouldnt be surprised if im found assembling more Star Wars-kits from Bandai in the future!

Cheers! :cheers2:

The photos are very good. Here's some tips:

Crop the image so there is less white space around it, that way the viewer concentrates on the model not the background. You can do this when you take the photo by filling the frame with the subject, or afterwards.

Position the model against the background so the background is mostly white. There are a few pics where there are shadows and uneven lighting in the background - these things can easily be removed by better model placement and camera angle. A clean background, with a well position model is what gives the best result.

The model looks good. Work on your photography, you will be much more impressed with the final shots once you perfect a few easy techniques.

It looks good. Sometimes a simple model that only requires a good, detailed paint job is fun to build.

Its a lovely build - well done!! :cheers2:
I would observe that, perhaps, there are times - such as when a more complex build is sapping the mojo badly - when a simple build like the way you described this one can restore the mojo and get one fired up again for the more complex build. :)

Love that ! I should try to get more bandai star war kits. I did the AT-ST and I think it's one of my best work. You spent so much less time on building (or repairing) as you said that all the work is concentrated on the paint and weathering.
    Nice job !

Couldnt agree more. This one was a total Mojo-injection :thumb2:

Thanks alot! The AT-ST looks amazing and I wouldnt be surprised if one found a way into my stash someday  even though its not my favorite scale, the weathering would be so fun!

Thank you very much, both the constructive feedback and the compliment! The background is actually light blue and I have some thoughts on buying a new white one! The "shadow" you see is actually one of the lights playing tricks on my iPhone. I found this out while looking at the "live view" and I will try to remove this feature the next time I do some photos for sure cause since the inconsistent backround steals the attention sometimes. Thanks again!
