Some history on the D. V
The D. V was a further development of the successful concept of the D III,with minor modifications by the technical director of the Albatros aircraft company in berlin.
The fuselage completely clad in plywood now had an oval cross-section throughout its entire length
the wing structure of the D III was retained in toto , only the attachment of the lower wing to the fuselarge had to be modified .
IN order to improve the piolts visiblity , the upper wing was positioned 10 centimetres lower and the water radiator on the wing
was moved to the right to avoid injury to the pilot if it was damaged or hit during combat ,
THE pilots head restrait was streamlined , but later removed as it became a hindrance .
the empty weight wa
s increased by 56kg /123 pounds .
the high compression mercedes DIIIa was installed with rather fewer pretensions to careful cowling in order to simplify access and maintenance.
THE D.V retained the same tailplane as the DIII but introduced an integral fixed fin , a raked back underfin and a more rounded rudder.
Unfortunately , although flying qualities remaind good , the D.V and D.Va were no great improvement over the DIII and achieved their success as much by sheer weight of numbers as by their performance.
the first D.V were delivered in mid 1917 , thay reached there peak of service in nov 1917 and march 1918 respectively,
and were the most widely used of all the Albatros fighters .
Exact production figures are not known , but a minimum of 1,5012 were known to have served on the western front .

Great looking scheme on this! I'll be watching with interest as I've often wondered how you go about assembling these. Wings on first, then rigging? Rigging on lower wing, then add upper wing? The mind boggles! Lol!

Good luck with it mate! :th: :th:

This is originally an Eduard kit as you can see from the sprues. Thankfully Eduards instruction sheets are much clearer and they keep copies of them online for reference as well, nice one Eduard :thumb1: . You can find their original instruction sheet which you can print out here; http://www.eduard.com/store/out/media/8407.pdf. Hope you find it useful.

back again on a roll now all parts glued in place. not a bad fit had to keep putting both sides together to line up the bulk heads
I wont be spending lots of time on the inside , because it will have a pilot.

Right now then, next job i did was to work out how to do the stripes on the wings there are no decals for this and the
instructions are not to scale , so i took both wings and drew round them on plain paper.
and used the tail plane decal from the other paint scheme to give me the angle and stripe width ,then mark it out on the paper
took a while but it was worth it.
now all i have to do is cut the masking tape to the same width and a way we go  .
on the pic below there will be a block of camo in the centre of the top wing and some at each end of the lower wing .

Just a quick update , before i go away for the weekend .
finished all the strips last night.
if anybody is interested as i said before i drew round the wings and elevator , then drew a parallel line just underneath the wing, then measured the width of the strip needed then using the plastic triangle witch as it happened was the right angle i needed, placed the edge along the parallel line then mark of the lines these were 4 mm apart taking the lines well over the edges of the wings .
then cut down the masking tape and stuck one end on one side then with a bit of tension pulled it across to the other side keeping between the lines .
when finished trim up and all done .
