1/35 M5A1 Light Tank

Post by alextheblue »

Over the last couple of months I had lost my way a little bit and had lost my "feeling" for model making. Time at the workbench was starting to feel like a chore and not the pleasure it should be. So I decided to build something that would be quick and easy and just blast it out. No real attention to detail and if bits didn't fit, sod it, bodge it and carry on. I've always enjoyed the painting and weathering stage more than the build process and I wanted to do something that I could paint and weather exactly how I wanted to do it and not how it should be done. I found this little beauty in amongst my huge stash of eight kits so got right down to it. The fit was pretty good, a couple of minor issues, but not bad for a '70's kit. It took me about a week and half from start to finish and whilst it's not great it seemed to reinvigorate my interest, which was exactly what I was hoping for! :th:

Well, not the greatest example of scale modelling that you'll see, but it did the trick for me. I would recommend something similar for anyone who is experiencing a dip in motivation- don't sweat the bits you don't enjoy so much and just concentrate of the bits that fire your enthusiasm.

Thanks for taking a look! :th:

its nice to see an example of a well executed "clean" build......your subtle weathering looks fantastic....it makes me imagine seeing it in a museum...great job!!! :thumb2: :thumb2:
On the bench........uummmmm i dont have a bench......not yet anyway

For an off the cuff bodge job it's excellent Alex. I myself am experiencing "feeling" issues at the mo, not having a compressor isn't helping, but I'm going to take your advice...when get a new comp that is.. :th:
Yes.. It is supposed to look like that!

It seems to be the best answer for lost mojo....changing your build subject. I usually only build Aircraft, but I lost my mojo a month ago, so I just built a Verlinden 120mm Paratrooper Figure and lo and behold, I really enjoyed it and got my drive back.

By the way,,,,the tank looks awesome for something done when the mood had gone! :thumb1: :thumb1:

stress releasing ... I feel you Alex.. I'm in the same boat so I hanged everything on my Trumpy and HB and dragons and dig into my only one remaining Tamiya Pz IV .. oh it was very enjoyable...

anyway..

even if this is a quick stress release build, you managed to put out a very lovely kit ... well done sir.. well done indeed
