Progress made..put the fuselage assemblies together.. still have some work to do. letting the rest of the fuselage dry before tackling the fwd part. Not too bad a fit could of been worse.. the extra work required is probably due to operator error :bash:

interior is completely completed. external fuel tanks installed.

Started the Base.. decided to use a smaller base then originally planned.

Started with a wall decoration/wall art. I fine these easier to use then a picture frame// more depth to it to hold the base. using the thermal foam board again easy to cut and shape.
Image

Cut to fit.
Image

the basic layout. I'll have to trim and shape both pieces of Foam board to represent a rocky mountaintop LZ

A bit more progress made the last two days. sorted out the major seam/?gap issue. The Engine mounting plate was not fully inserted into it's key, although it was cemented with CA in place already I just took a razor saw and cut off the Tab and key and just cemented in place the mounting plate. That cleared up the major seam issue. The rest of the seams are workable. the build is staring to get FUN !!

Image

Have to fix his eyes.. Mini gun will be installed after fuselge painting is complete. the door will be installed for painting then removed.
Image

aft part of the cabin aligns pretty good

Image

Not happy with this.. seems the fwd part of the engines don't align with the cowlings. I'm trying something new to me. The two seams above the cockpit are fill with Model Master clear parts cement. never tried it before so I'll see how it comes out.

Image
Image

Image

I thought the fwd windscreen was going to be a horror to masked but turns out it is going real well.
Image

was worried about the fit of the windscreen but looks real real good
Image

still have some masking to trim

Image

used my cell phone Light app to backlight the windscreen so I could tell very easy where the window frames were to cut the masking

more progress to report:

she is in the process of checking the seams and such.. she has just been what I call " Preliminary Primed" using a cheaper auto primer to prime and check the seams.. almost there.. Once she's ready to be "Primed"..ll use BADGER STYNYLREZ.

Cabin(Cargo) cabin windows are masked with humbrol Maskol.

the cargo Clamshell is temporarily attached with Tamiya masking tape. I'll leave that on that way until the end of the painting process and then remove it..carefully air brush around the access.

the fwd Cabin door is temporarily tacked on and will be remove at the end of the painting process and the mini gun will be installed

also started building the SEAL Team figures ,two from CMK (resin) and two from Dragon.

Image
Image

Here you can see I fixed the Gap between the front of the engine turbines and the cowling.. added some milliput and shaped it still have some sanding to do on the milliput

Image

love taking photos.. you can see what you don't notice with your eyes.. I see i have some filling at the rear of the cowling where it meets the de-icer.

still working the seam issue. Got bored with that so I moved on to the diorama

used two tiers of Foam board. primed it then, coated it with Vallejo Earth effects- Earth brown. this will not be the final color. used it to get a nice gritty texture.

Left a space for a ready made rock from the railroad hobby.. not sure if i will use it or not. used air dry clay for the transition from the level landing zone to the lower level, I sculpted it as well you can wet the clay, just a bit, and it smooths right out making it easier to work with. After it drys I will have to check for cracks.. and if so add more clay on the cracks.. and then repeat if necessary

Haven't posted in a week or so but work coninued

started the paint work .. I used: Lifecolor RLM 65 for the bottom.. love Lifecolor paints but sometimes they spray great other times like this time. it was a pain in the neck, even though I mix it the same everytime... but it worked out...

Sprayed the base green camo with MM RLM 83. Faded that green with Vallejo model air Pale green. The dark camo sprayed Free hand with Tamiya XF-27 Black Green.

Changed the base from my original Idea added more jagged rocks for some interest. still deciding if the base is too small for the Helo.. what do you think??? I keep going back and forth with that thought. obviously more work to be done on the base

I think a little bit wider base would look nicer, and would provide a better protection for the copter. But I also like how it looks now... :th: I assume you'll add a layer for ground coverage to sink the boulders into it.

I'm thinking just a little bit wider and couple inches longer. still have lots of work to do on the base I'll add some groundcover, foliage and such plus add more color to the ground.

UPDATE: the base is now finished.. did a bit more drybrushing and toned down the orange/red tones

Working on the figures.. not my speciality but getting there on them

Copter is glossed and ready for weathering. decals "91101" on the tail boom are the only ones that will be applied.

Absolutely great work on the base, love the idea of the background as well...just fiddle with the shades to get it closer
I have done cardboard backing on a photo page to make the background stand up and stop shadows through the paper
The background adds such a great third dimension
Chopper is looking sweet too :thumb2:

Thanks !! I think Im going to use a nature backround I scouted some placess few months ago about an hour west of where i live ,where there are spots that would fit as a backround. where there are rocky outcrops and hills and at this time of year the color would be a good fit.

she's weathered... I used Ultimate Dark Dir2 along with Vallejo/mig pigments, mig streaking grime and used wilder nitroline products.. went alittle heavy on the exhaust that wasn't the plan.. i'll have to fix that.

then still have to flat coat it, unmask, add the antenas and probes and build & attach the main rotor. also still have to finish the faces on the figures and she'll be complete

Built the rotor hub. primed then sprayed with Alclad Stainless steel folowed by a mist of Pale burnt metal and then transparent smoke. Glossed and then washed with Wilder Deep shadow wash. will let that dry then gloss again and followed by another layer of a different tinted wash...

Image

the blades were painted with MIg's Light Ghost grey(Tops) and Mig's Rubber and tire black (Bottoms) no wash applied yet.
