Weekend Goals and Accomplishments

Post by Lysus »

I thought it might be nice to share with each other what we hope to do over the weekend, mainly to motivate each other but also just because sometimes I don't *get* a weekend at the bench and I can only read about what others do...

So here's how it works, if anyone wants to: just drop a post on Friday with what you hope to do. Then, on Monday, recap! Then reap the praises of the other members. Simple? Simple. It's not a contest or a race, just a friendly "go team" before the weekend starts.

Oh, and if like Dowager Countess Grantham you don't know what a weekend is because you don't have a M-F schedule--or any schedule, I don't judge--just post whenever you like with the proviso that you post again in a couple days with the result.

If anyone participates, I'll just keep posting here rather than make a new thread every week. No need to clutter up the place. If not, I'll just type into the void, I guess ;)

So this weekend: I want to finish sanding and painting my egg planes, get them ready for the many decals I have to do and, if time is left, finish painting up the interior of the GTi with a stretch goal of interior assembly. I think I'll get 15 minutes of free time this weekend, more than enough, ya?

I'm off to Whitby for a long weekend in an hour or so. My aim is to visit many pubs and eat fish n chips. I feel I will accomplish this.

I plan to watch a lot of rugby as its quarter final time in the European Cup. In between I will finish my F4U Corsair and start looking at my P51 for the Shiny Things SIG.

If I get time, I may watch Sicario, my newly arrived movie starring the delicious and delectable Emily Blunt.

In short it's going to be hell but I am resolute. As Churchill said, KBO boys, KBO.

Damn Avgas, you've done it now. I can feel the need to visit Grimsby Fisheries on the Welford Road tomorrow night!

Mmmm, fish and chips baby, yeah....... :cheers2:
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.

Well the wife's working all weekend, so that upgrades me to Chief Domestic Engineer, Child Entertainment Specialist to my 6 year olds & House Chef. So going smash all the housework before 12:00hrs. I'll think off something for the afternoon - but Sunday from 15:30hrs - 17:00hrs is man cave time and I have a Shiney Thing to progress. Have a good one at the weekend all!

UPDATE

Friday: Finished Step 6 of the battleship this morning before work. and did One Hour of stair master this AM. And drove the Convertible to work this morning - even had it washed!

Well since the only bench time I get is on the weekends I plan on:
Working on the B-25J. Put the camo on and decals maybe get to the weathering.
I also got a "Willy" jeep this week, plus ordered the helicopter from MASH. I may just start on the MASH project I have in mind.
Try not to get in trouble too much when I show the wife the bill from Hobbylinc :eeek:
Drink some after showing the bill, run back out into the shed and keep on working.

Seriously Hobbylinc is going to get me into a lot of trouble. Love their prices.

Anyway will post more pics in my build log of the B-25J

I do a little list like these for the week and then for each weekend when I am bored and stuck at work....helps me get through the day

Today was my day "off", car got serviced, doggy walk, was dragged around looking at stone, wood flooring and thank god no time for tile.....my head starts swimming after the first hour. H-Vac guy cut my 4" line for shop's spray booth vent/ dust collector
Now have to plan for a visit to Grizzly Tools in Seattle area and pick up some equipment.

Have a wife- free night tonight as she is out with the girls BUT I have dog walk ,2 kids events, dinner prep, dishes and late night house security check to do.
I MIGHT get to do more Bugatti parts manufacture if I am lucky tonight
After reading the fish and chips + beer weekend I am into the rum and Coke..so maybe no modelling

Well I have accomplished ploughing the back 260 acres. Mind you in very trying conditions. The air con broke half way though and it ain't no fun being stuck in a glass box with no air con. I was striped down to my jocks and socks with sweat just rolling off. Just finished as my water ran out. Looks like another tractor drive to Geraldton which is 200km round trip.

Yesterday, I celebrated a 19-day feast, and it's hockey semifinal season here, so I'll watch at least one game on the TV today, possibly tomorrow as well, while doing the laundry.

But apart from those things, I hope to start and complete decaling my Junkers JU 87B-1 Stuka. There's not too many of them, so it'll be possible.

Nahhh, they jus didn't have anything interesting AND stuff was more then I paid for in my last haul.
I recently did and E Bay, Ultimate, Wingnut Wings and model show purchases so my cup kinda already runneth over.
Tonight I did manage to solder the two wings to the shaft for the Bugatti gas cap....took a few tries to say the least, but pretty happy with it

Well I've just driven 60 miles to a model show that isn't until April 24th. :bash:

I came, I saw, I most definitely failed to conquer. With tail firmly between legs I drove home again. Still, all is not lost. A Tamiya Birdcage Corsair is on its way that I ordered yesterday.

WEEKEND RECAP

It's good to see all the responses! Myself, my weekend suddenly and quickly became busy, so my time at the bench shrank to a singularity in time and space from which no productivity could escape.

I thought it best to quote your original goal post in your recap post so we all can see what you wanted to do (but you don't have to, just a thought to help each other track our progress). Alternatively, the idea has been floated to update/edit your OP, but I think we'll try this first and see how it goes.

Well, I got my sanding and priming done on the egg planes, but not much else. Oh well, perhaps I can squeeze some after dinner sessions in this week to catch up!

Atleast the traffic on the M1 was ok. But then I was heading home at 9.45 in the morning. Gonna write a ballad about my experiences

The ballad of Little Stokesy

Was a sunny sunday morning
Was feeling kind a blue
The model show was elsewhere
What is a man to do?

She says I'm two weeks early
I think I peaked too soon
Too itchy on the trigger
Gone be home by noon

Gotta wait till next time
I'll keep my powder dry
Just arrived back home now
Oh Lordy Lordy, Why?

:violin:

Other than that, it was a pretty good weekend. Tigers (my team) thrashed Stade Francais in the rugby and my Mustang is coming along nicely in the Shiny Things SIG. Gotta be thankful for what I have, not what I don't.

That one I almost succeed with. Unfortunately, as I was about to put the last decals on the flaps, I realized I hadn't completed painting it. Still haven't, but at least it's mounted, together with a few other parts I've deliberately left unmounted during the decalling process. Also begun painting the pilot and gunner.

So all in all, a pretty successful weekend!

(And by the way, Skellefteå AIK won their hockey game. Tonight might be the decisive game in their semifinal series - would in such case mean they play the SHL finals for the 6th consecutive year!).

Rained all weekend so only drove the convertable to work on Friday.
Did finish step 6 of battleship.
Did put together the ME 262.
Went to the Rockys (baseball team here) game on Saturday where they were crushed.
Meet a fairly attractive girl at the game, but she liked my friend more.
Ran out of beer on Friday night so I only had two beers the whole weekend!
Lifted weights only one day not two, and only did cardio two days not three.
Oh yea, I also finished my Federal income tax returns.

Not much going on this past weekend - kind of slow.

Heh, at least you noticed now and not later ;)

UPDATE

Rained all weekend so only drove the convertable to work on Friday.
Did finish step 6 of battleship.
Did put together the ME 262.
Went to the Rockys (baseball team here) game on Saturday where they were crushed.
Meet a fairly attractive girl at the game, but she liked my friend more.
Ran out of beer on Friday night so I only had two beers the whole weekend!
Lifted weights only one day not two, and only did cardio two days not three.
Oh yea, I also finished my Federal income tax returns.

Not much going on this past weekend - kind of slow.
Your weekend sounds better than mine.

Finally, Friday! The inlaws are in town, but this is actually a good thing since they're here to see the kids and not me. I should be able to vanish a little bit...

I'm hoping to get my egg planes painted, glossed, and decalled. Time allowing I can get the horrible hatch fit sorted out on the GTi. Like last weekend...

Short weekend for me.

Finish building sawhorses and stain some soffit wood. Drive screws into plywood subfloor to stop future squeaks. Clean, sweep and vac inside
Modelling:
Keep plugging at Bugatti with gas tank and cap, interior and controls to complete their detail and assembly; maybe engine if I can get the body on
I am not buying any more model kits, ever again...except a Mac Truck for the sig, oh and a Sopwith Camel when it comes out and then there is the....

Short one for me too as I'm teaching in Brum tomorrow, 8:30-1-30.
Then down to Ampthill to see the other half (she works in London and I work in Midlands). Might get some modelling done as she has suggested I bring down a kit to work on. She's a musician and teacher like myself but she has a sideline making jewellery.
Can't take full airbrush and compressor down though so I've put aside an Airfix 1/72 Tiger Moth and some old Humbrol enamels just to keep my eye in at brush painting.
Trouble is she lives opposite a fantastic real ale pub (I mean opposite, we can sit in the pub's front room and still be on her wifi) so I may get distracted.

Anyway, wishing everyone a happy and creative weekend.

Well this weekend for me is all about my youngest grandsons 4th birthday party on Saturday and I really must crack on with digging out a few more tree stumps in readiness for some decking to be installed. If I make any progress with them I may just get round to getting the tail and engines built for the Airfix Lancaster BIII that I'm currently forcing into shape.

Not holding my breath though... SWMBO will be cracking the whip :eeek:
I just added another one to the, "What the HELL was I thinking list..."

And you haven't married the woman?!!!

I only work Tuesday to Thursday so have a long weekend every weekend. So, today I had the pleasure of driving to Leicester in the p***ing down rain to have my first pacemaker check. All is well, they are happy, I am happy. Got the grandson staying tonight, tomorrow I drive up to Barnsley (in the p***sing down rain again by the look of it) to see my sister who's birthday is on Monday. Sunday the other half is working so I'm hoping to get my NMF started. Monday I'm at the dentist in the morning for a filling. Deep joy.
Regards, Dave.

Going to see your better half and giving her a headache with old fashioned enamels, you really know how to impress the fairer sex I would say ;) If the weather forecast for coming weekend are similar to what they have in stock for here. How does this fancy you. Take the model and supplies to the patio of the pub and do some modeling in the sun while enjoying a real ale. You can count me in for something like that :cheers2: :cheers2: :cheers2:

Have a nice one and keep sticking styrene.

@lysus hope you can manage to get some bench time in as wel bro..

2 year old and 5 month old here, I can assure you those tracks will be far more fun than you might remember by this point. There's no poop, drool, or spit.

Believe me, I'm fighting hard to make it happen! The downside to visiting in-laws is the list of household repairs I've managed to put off becomes an existential time sucker...fix this, fix that, etc. Working on it! Well, not right now, right now I'm having lunch, but soon!

 Well, no matter what happens, you have one or both threads to supply us with updates. Hopefully with raspberry smiley artwork. For the house, not the Bugatti...

I'll give you guys one thing though; we've just sat through the whole lot of Breaking Bad for the second time (not all in one sitting I might add). Best thing that's ever been on telly IMO. Bryan Cranston, what an actor. Seven days younger than me and just like me he doesn't look a day over 40... American TV used to be a joke. Not anymore.

Excellent news on the pacemaker Sir

No fake model shows for me this weekend so its good old kit making, beer drinking and sports. Got my NMF Mustang which I am taking my time on plus a rather nice Tamiya Jagdtiger on the go in between. Still on the running gear and probably will be at the end of Sunday too
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.

'Tis indeed sir. Apparently the old ticker is now trying to sort itself out on it's own; the cable that goes into the lower ventricle has hardly fired for the last two weeks. The tech in those things is amazing, it actually records every single firing. The pacemaker tech was telling me that on such and such a date and time it did this that and the other.

Friday! Just got home from AW, but hey - I've got the whole weekend left! Unfortunately ;-) hockey finals season is here. Skellefteå AIK made it to the finals for the 6th consecutive year - quite impressive! Anyway, hockey tomorrow and Sunday, but I guess I'll get some time for modelling anyway:

* Total exterior paint of a cheap stunt double scrap model (Hawker Sea Fury T-20) for paint practice.
* External priming the next stunt double (a Boulton Paul Defiant NF. 1) for the same purpose. But I really intend to finish this one.
