Ok, my egg plane decal nightmare is 95% over, so I hope to enjoy my half-day Friday, come home and shoot my final gloss coat on the egg planes and then hit up one of the three with some "special flair." That puts them to bed just in time for the deadline.

Then Saturday it's on to some desperately needed house cleaning, some Thomas the Tank Engine train set time with the oldest, and then sleep training for the youngest.

Sunday, oh Sunday, I can finally get back to my GTi build and hopefully get the interior and undercarriage sealed with a dullcote and maybe even clean the styrene on the P-51. I know, pipe dreams...but hey, you never know!

Good luck everyone, happy Friday!

3 Day weekend here, so hopefully I will make up for last weekend where I got no modeling done, and, at least get the Dunkelgelb done. Seeing as Sunday is May already I will start on the PTO group build maybe the Aircobra or I might do the 109 first, I'm as of yet not decided. I might wait til payday so I can buy the Eduard photo-etch for the Emil, or should I just build it OOB? Such first world problems I suffer from. Also must remember to buy some beer today as I am out.

Wow, weekend already? :D Well ... exterior paining of my Yakolev Yak-9D, doing at least the underside and one of the camouflage colors. Still gotta put that one up in the build areas, btw. An awful mold, to say it in a nice way. But, it's about paint practice, rather than anything else. We'll see if I go out for a AW later today, or if I'm too tired...

Been to Donny today to check out the new TAG model shop. Came away empty handed which I thought was very determined of me. Had a bit of a mare with the NMF the other night, everything was going fine until I came to put the wings together which revealed some....shortcomings with the fit so I've a major fill and sand job on and I'm trying to drum up the enthusiasm.

Spending the afternoon filling, polishing, re-scribing the P-38, then refilling, re-polishing, re-re-scribing etc....... In a bit of a rut with this one but trying to push through.

Work tomorrow, then will make another attempt to set up my southern FOB on Sunday.

Possible problems: Proximity of pub, the mighty LCFC away at Old Trafford, my turn to do the Sunday roast. Will report back.

Hoping everyone enjoys their weekend.

It's worth posting every Sunday night. If we could give this thread it's own header, it would be this.

Myself, I got my eggs done (barely) in time. Got a base coat down on the GTi, though I didn't matte coat the interior or undercarriage. Got the P-51 fuselage off the runners and prepped for cockpit work.

And I even had time to start the next set in my fleet project.

AND I got a great day of kiddo time on Saturday.

Not a lick of housework was done by me, though ;) Sorry, Mrs. Lysus, I'll make it up during the week.

Ok, Monday, bring it.

Off to Breedon Antiques this morning. Lovely little model stall called Clifton's curios. Loads of lovely stuff you can only tend to find in a specialised model shop or on the net.

Very nice café too so its a win win!

Mostly failure.

I did finish one of the camouflage colors; the green one. The wing undersides now have their blue color, but the fuselage underside still doesn't. Unfortunately, I accidentally dropped one of the wing's painted side onto a streak of glue (aka the dropped sandwich theorem) - not good! Need to repaint that one, but I guess it'll be difficult to completely remedy that mishap.

Another mishap when I started painting the second (brown) camouflage color; I compared using ordinary household masking tape with 6mm modelling masking tape. Huge difference: the household tape didn't stick perfectly onto the surface, causing a lot of paint to bleed under it. So I'll need to repaint large areas of the aircraft.

And I didn't go to the AW either. But I did watch some movies, and actually glued the fuselage and wings together as well as prepared some of the underside detail pieces for gluing.

I had the same problem with regular house hold masking tape. I tried several times to use it figuring it was user error but no matter what I did I got leakage of paint under the tape. I switched to Tamiya masking tape and have not had the same problem since. Good luck.

Yeah, I use Tamiya tape as well. I've spent the afternoon fixing the mess, but the model will not achieve its full potential. Anyway... Practice, practice, practice!

Sometimes I think that mishaps are kind of fun in a way, because then you know that you know what not to do the next time. I've had so many facepalm moments since starting back up again it's nearing high comedy. Either way, you were doing something you wanted to do, so that's a win! And it's nice to let yourself experiment like you did. There are people who won't let themselves try things, so good on you, man! :th:

Mixed success. Managed to set up fob with tools, paints, glue and two Airfix 1/72 kits. Failure to progress further for a number of reasons though doesn't involve pub but some rather nice red wine and visits from friends.

Depends. If you're the hammer then maybe. If you're the nail then not so much!

Had a very nice morning at Breedon. Restocked a few paints, got some matt varnish and some new brushes. My Sister had a wonder round the antiquey bits although I did spy her going through the books on the kits stall.

Had a good look at the kits he had in stock but nothing really tickled my fancy then right as I was about to leave, spotted an Eduard 1/48 Me110 Profipack edition. Cracking price too. NIIIIIIIICE.

Then coffee and the biggest scones with cream I have ever seen

Today is a holiday in Sweden, which also means most people will take a day off tomorrow as well, so as far as I'm concerned, the weekend's already started. After completing the Yak-9D this week, I've started building a trivial 30-pieces Airfix 1:72 Boulton Paul Defiant turrent-fighter, for paint practice. Since the weekend is long, my goal is to paint all exterior camouflage and bottom sides. Hopefully without a lot of paint bleeding, which is going to be a challenge, since the fuselage and wings have roughly a million elevated rivets.

Looks like someone is not looking forward to His own upcoming birthday bash ;) As I said on Facebook the mottling on the 109 came out great and look forward to seeing it in decals.

Happy modeling and keep sticking styrene.

Have fun John. It's just a number mate...... a big number, but just a number ( that's what I tell myself as I'm a few years ahead of you).

Double gigs for me on Friday and Saturday so no time for the bench. However, off to an airshow on Sunday and as I've actually managed to build a few so far this year, there may be a visit to the model stands.

40? Wish I was 40 again, you're a mere youngster! Have a good one!

Nephew gets married today, looks like the weather will be good at least. I'm not over keen on weddings, bloody boring. Staying away tonight, rest of this weekend looks like good weather, far too nice to be stuck inside modelling. Am finding the NMF a bit of a grind at the moment, can't work up the enthusiasm to do any more on it just yet. Have finished filing and sanding the terrible fit of the upper wing after having to cut off some of the undercarriage framework (hardly seeable once it's together). Shame really, the start of the kit was excellent.

Gigs are worth missing bench time for, yeah? What kind of music to you play, jazz? Blues?

So myself, I have a half day today, then some bench time but probably very little beyond that so I need to maximize it. Hopefully I can sand back my first layer of color on the GTi before its second coat of color, and maybe get my P-51 cockpit assembled. Painted if there's time, at least in the green if not the little (and I mean little, 1/72  ) control console.

Bon courage!

Good luck with your builds mate. Have a P51 to do later this year but 48th. My eyes can't handle 72nd.

Was a school cabaret night tonight and I direct the jazz band. Fairly easy as standing in front of a band is a hell of a lot easier than playing.

Got a playing gig tomorrow though. Jazz stuff again.
Yeah, it's all fun and goes towards paying the bills.

Got a playing gig tomorrow though. Jazz stuff again.
Yeah, it's all fun and goes towards paying the bills.
Nice! Wouldn't mind seeing a vid if you have one, if not, that's cool. I just enjoy live music and rarely get out these days to hear some what with the tiny humans in our house.

And yeah, I might need new eye balls by the time I finish it.

For the two next weekends I got a non modeling airbrush job on the books. My niece (4 years old) is in that phase where she is scared of monsters. After having discussed it with both her mom and her. We came up with the idea of making a whiteboard in the shape of the character Boo from the Monsters Inc. movie by Disney Pixar. As both mom and dad are big Disney fans and Boo is about the age of my niece we developed the idea a bit further and its now going to be a life size Boo whiteboard. After having some difficulties with the magnetizer paint and the white primer layer that followed a lot of sanding and redoing laid the groundwork for me to start doing the base colors today.. This is the interim result thus-far Picture taken today at 19:30 when i had enough for one day after a good 7 hour mammoth airbrushing session..

And this is the Image i'm working and hoping to get close to by the end of next weekend

I'll have a look fella or will make some enquiries. It's a laidback kind of band and we play lots of big band arrangements of Earth, Wind and Fire, Stevie Wonder and Pat Metheny stuff. Bear with..... May take a while.
I enjoy it as I spent some time in a previous life doing all the white tie and tails concert hall classical stuff, that can be fun too but on these gigs I get to play with a pint of beer under my seat.

Sunday evening 17:30 ish so time to post an update on this weekends goals. During the clean up dropped some cleaner on the left trouser leg and made a bit of a booboo ;) see what I did there... Time for a Ice cold one. stay tuned for next weekends installment where the face, hair and touch-up for the neck are planned. During the week I'm going to finish up the mask for the face and get it all cut out.

Today is a holiday in Sweden, [...] so as far as I'm concerned, the weekend's already started. [...] Since the weekend is long, my goal is to paint all exterior camouflage and bottom sides. Hopefully without a lot of paint bleeding, which is going to be a challenge, since the fuselage and wings have roughly a million elevated rivets.
Major failure. A major football game on Thursday (got sunburns on one side of my face - looks ... interesting  ), and another one today, in combination with lack of motivation to get started doing anything at all on Friday, put a large obstacle in the way. Anyway, the underside is painted, and the fuselage is glued. Begun painting the top side of the wings and stabilizers. But those sides don't go very well. Guess I'll have to sand and start over again. Another challenge related to the gazillion rivets.

Ah, well, got to have something to do during the upcoming week, I guess. The Mosquito in my stash will have to wait a while longer.

Heh, it wouldn't be a hobby if it were obligatory. Regarding the burn, I suppose you could just always talk to people in profile only? ;)

Right? I think my next hobby space will have a large porch or lanai so I can just move a few feet and feel like I got to spend time in the nice weather.

with the footy ya have to alternate your seating position to get a even burn and use a little filtering down the middle to blend it... :)

No modelling done but had a great time at Old Warden for the season opener. The weather was beautiful, the Red Arrows displayed along with a load of other cool aircraft. Personal highlights were the P40, Lysander and Blenheim. I took a few photos but left most of that to my girlfriend as her camera (and skills) much better than mine.
Managed to restock my stash at the model stalls too.
