Just a little bitty upditty. Er, update.

Laid down some jet exhaust. Then I laid down too much jet exhaust.

Image

Also remembered at the last minute that there are bombs and so on to do, so I got those primed and painted with some XF-84 Dark Iron for the bombs and c89 Off White for the missiles. The drop tanks had some heinous seams and they're currently slathered in some putty.

Image

Got a gloss coat on (Aqua Gloss) and I'll probably do a final gloss coat tomorrow before I *sigh* leave town again.

Then I can decal! HOORAY!

Deadline? Pfft...

So I've been banging away at this. Got the tailhook done up with a stripe made with Tamiy abendy tape and some XF-3 Flat Yellow:

Image

Image

Not bad. I fixed the odd line here and there after and put it on. The tailhook seems a bit large on this kit...

Anyway, then decals. In a word, these suck. Like you thought Tamiya were bad, these are awful. Pardon my french, but ce sont les pires décalcomanies que j'ai jamais utilisé.

The walk decals, thick as credit cards, yet able to come apart instantly:

Image

So I pressed on with the million "NO STEP" and so on. They go on ok, but they're also super thick and I fear will look pretty bad after a clay wash. We'll see. I decided to try making some of my own in the Star Wars language. A couple went on alright, but the larger ones rolled up on me like it was going out of style.

Image

Image

Ugh. At this point I'm so close, but I'm frustrated and there's other projects crowding my bench that need attention as well. So I'm putting it up for a while, at least until tonight after the kids are in bed. I'll try again when my rage level goes down ;)

Try a layer of clear over your decals so they don't roll up so much
I used two brush coats of future on my old Hasegawa ones and they went on great
Don't give up, it is looking super cool :thumb2:

I let them simmer for a while, most of them settled down, but one just went south. I'm gonna sleep on it tonight since I obviously won't make the deadline ;) Tomorrow I'll either fix that one decal or just give it a last gloss coat for a wash.

Ordinance is done, just needs to be slapped on. Sadly I won't be able to get further than that until Sunday since duty calls again. Hopefully the next update will be a link to the reveal.

I'll keep it brief since I just noticed the reveal vid is up and I'm itching to see it!

A gloss coat of Aqua Gloss later I made it really dirty with some Ultimate Dark Dirt mixed with Rust:

Image

A couple decals (uuuuuuuuuuuuuugh) peeled up. These really are the worst. Yes, worse than Tamiya. But I didn't have time to ponder them too much since I was greeted with a new problem.

Did you know that BMF shouldn't be left on for MONTHS? 'Cuz I didn't!

Image

I was hoping to shoot the reveal pics tonight, but instead I'm sitting here wondering how best to pick up all the sticky goo left behind. Windex on a Q-tip? I dunno. I'm sleepy and wanna see Guy's vid. We'll find out tomorrow what I come up with :p

Ya start with that and then work stronger like thinner...but very little and very carefully!!!squeeze the Q-tip off on a paper towel
I BMF'd my canopy hours after doing a Future clear and then left it all on for ages. I got lucky I guess, nothing like that

Ya, I think I did a Future dip way back at the start, but this makes me wonder if I skipped it... We'll see today if I can fix it.
