Update
wiping the egg from my face and settling back on my memory foam throne i have made some progress..
Base coats on.
Tamiya XF-66 Light Grey on the belly, XF-70 Dark Green 2 for the shell and upper surfaces, XF-1 Flat Black lightened with XF-23 Light Blue for the cowling, XF-64 Red Brown for the Prop and Spinner.
I then had the smashing

idea to ditch the kit decals in favour of something a bit more be-yolk.
In the words of Tony Stark.."throw a little hot rod red in there".
18mm wide Tamiya tape being beaten

into submission.
Google helped with the flame design, i just adapted to suit my needs. What followed was a scramble

to get the whole thing wrapped up.
i was starting to crack up at this point
the subsequent painting happened thusly...as i forgot to take pics at each stage...sorry
first layer applied was Ultimate white primer as a solid base. next up was Vallejo Air 71.078 Yellow RLM04, trying to fill the flames but leaving the leading edge white hot. Lastly back to Tamiya XF-7 Flat Red as a highlight? touching the edges and tail end of the flames. aiming to give a good flaming effect but in a classic hot rod styley.
Almost at boiling point

now wanting to see whats just under the shell

....
happy and relieved that things turned out good...so good im going to stop the pun-ishment.. heres half a dozen pics..
the underside wasnt spared either.
flying off to the paint booth light eggshell coating.......
