Re: Questions for the News show...

Post by Lee »

We haven't had a news show for awhile because, as most of you know, I've moved house and started another (transport) company. This has taken the majority of my time.

I run Ultimate Modelling Products, a Mortgage Brokerage and now a transport company, whilst also trying to get a magazine off the ground! It all gets a bit on top most of the time! I beg your understanding and patience. I'm not asking for sympathy, just understanding.... ISM is a hobby for me as is my modelling, both have had to take a back seat for awhile whilst I get my life in some sort of order.

My mancave should be finished in my new house in the next few days and once that's done, I will be able to start filming again. News shows will be back at the end of this month. beginning of next at the latest, along with the reveal shows and more kit/product reviews - I have some corkers lined up.

Hang in there people :th:
Where does all the bloody time go.....?

Thanks Paul and Lee. Appreciate your efforts. I guess we just worry we'll miss our prizes with the one month collection thing?

Yes there is the prizes, but it is also for me something good to look forward to each month. Apart of the ISM package deal.
We can all understand how hard it must be to run 3 possibly 4 companies no matter what size, but also being all so different with a whole lot of different problems....I don't know how you manage to do it. I'd be sucking my thumb in the corner somewhere waiting for the little white van to arrive.
Still It is nice to know what is happening it makes the understanding easier. I did think the house shift was long finished.
I will look forward to the new show.

Haha.... Thats the point.... We don't know where or when its being announced as there has been no news show?

I still don't know who won Jan/Feb, nor March?

But it is much more than just the prizes too, as mentioned above. Look forward to having the news back.

Yeah but are we going to get drink of the month? Hope so.

Can't you get your missus to do the boring stuff like the morgerage and transport thingy?

Or you could watch it live or the uploaded video afterwards. I don't see the problem myself. A lot of hard work goes in to the live shows adding things like reveals prize announcements adds to the work load for myself and the guys that help me.

Most of us have not the time to watch live, wr also have busy lives..
It would be helpful to add a summary when uploading the recordings of live shows, then everyone can decide if they want to watch them or not...

Like you I've not got the time to summarise 3.5 hours of a show twice a week.... I think you guys also need to remember we do this for nothing, in our own free time.

The Live show works great (either live or on replay) if you've got a decent broadband connection, but it's clunky on replay if you've only got the one hamster driving your internet connection which I think is what Digger's saying. I can sympathise as I had ISP problems recently which effectively made any streaming video unusable until they sorted us out and we're back in the 21st century again. This would apply to the news shows as well.

The only suggestion I'd make is to include the photos if possible when putting up the results like this one so it'd help those with lower bandwidth (and also where one member has submitted more than one entry):

You blokes provide a fantastic service to compliment a hobby and its free. Thank you very much for your time and efforts. It is entertaining and informative.
The quick fix to this perceived problem is obvious and I hope you don't go down this path.

Blimey, what do you lot do if you miss Coronation Street?

The Live shows on at the same times each week, I get up at 04:00am to watch them, what's all your excuses?

The internet over here in Australia is a huge embarrassment, however, I can watch it no problems, under my real name John(ny) Blythe from Brisbane in the live chat, even without the already out of date NBN not rolled out here for a couple of years yet.

I'm reminded of the old adage 'A busy man always gets more work heaped upon him'. As Paul says, Lee and him, plus the live contributors do all this for nowt. OK it's connected to their business etc etc but essentially what we get here is a free modelling community and service (unlike others) so let's not look a gift horse in the mouth. Even if you miss the live shows it only takes seconds to scroll through it and find the relevant bit you want. Or you could try opening your own modelling forum, spend hours moderating and putting up helpful build and technique vids, run a job and a family at the same time or in Lee's case run two other businesses. Easy.

Could the solution to the issue not be as simple as posting the names of winners at the end of the Monthly contests thread, after the 'Closed' comment for that particular month?

I really do value the effort you guys put in, and I'm not trying to cause more work for anyone, if anything, trying to assist, so that you don't get bombarded with more of these questions every month? I wish it did take a few seconds to find the relevant part of the video's to get to the announcements, in fact, I wish I could actually watch ALL the videos with ease, but the internet here is beyond bad. Half the time I cannot even watch the video's at all. Sometimes I have to use a third party downloader to be able to watch vids, but even that doesn't work a lot of the time.

Anyway, maybe some other kind soul would be gracious enough to tell me if I won any of the comps, but even still, I do feel like I'm missing out on so much more, and when I did get to watch them, the news videos were great!

Keep up the good work guys.

First up I will say that Lee, Paul and everyone else does a great job on the site and it's Free. :th: So no complaining here.

What I will say is the News show was perfect for my situation, 1 to 1.30 hours a month, it covered everything I wanted to know. I would love to be able to take part or even watch the Live shows but streaming that much video is just not possible. I can live with that. :violin:

Digger I know exactly where your coming from mate, Augustus well aren't you lucky, you live on the coast, try coming inland and seeing what kind of service you get, I get ADSL1, 30Gb download all for the lovely price of $70 a month and thank my lucky stars, I don't have to pay an arm and a leg for crappy Satellite services.

So i agree with SU35, until or if the News shows ever come back put the winners of the comps at the end of the relevant threads, if memory serves that's how they used to be announced, that way those of us who are bandwidth deficit can at least keep up to date.

cheers

Hi.
I hear that the news shows will be up and running again shortly. Great to hear what's what.
If you were recommending a new kit for a novice like me what would it be?
Happy to have a go at any genre but one that can be build up without worrying about painting or weathering. I figure that I need to gain the basic skills of glue, filling and sanding before I start to brandish an airbrush. Happy to get the normal brushes out. But it isn't really my aim.
Thanks

Wouldn't say I'm lucky really. I pay a lot of money to live in the inner city and a lot of money for my internet connection. All paid with money earned from hard graft. So you could always move. you can't blame Lee, Paul etc for where YOU choose to live.

But if you read the whole of my post I think I said that BB here is rubbish.

If you can get ADSL1 you should be able to cable BB for just a wee bit more, you can watch all the vids then with ease.

Lee, great to hear :th: :thumb1: .

Augustus so what, we all pay hard earned money for the things we consume, you live in inner city Brisbane, you have options, in the country we don't, you say I should be able to cable BB for a little bit more, well I can't that option is not available, no matter how much I wanted to spend. What I have is probably the best I'm ever going to get. No complaints, I live here and work here because I like it, so I deal with the lack of facilities/amenities.

WAS I blaming Paul or Lee for where I live, was I even complaining, I don't think so, I was saying why I liked the News show and why I couldn't watch the Live show and making a comment on how monthly winners etc could be announced outside of the live show for those that don't have the bandwidth, so that they could still keep in touch.

You made a smart arse post, and it was commented on.

cheers

Lol, i don't believe my original comment was smart arsed at all, then you made the smart arsed comment about me being lucky, which I commented on. Why don't you just leave it there.

I can't see any reason why an exchange that can deliver ADSL1 can't deliver cable, basic cable BB is actually older technology, the only reason I can see it not being available is due to demand in your area, if over subscribed cable bandwidth can drop considerably making it impractible. If you want to give me your exchange prefix numberI can actually look into this if you wish ;0)

No scrub the above, I'm not offering any help. My original comment was not smart arsed in the least. Your comment about me being lucky was, which then warranted my own smart arsed reply.

Im fed up with people moaning about stuff on here when everything they get is free. Take this exactly as you will, I care not.

It really makes me laugh how many of the people that moan on here are Aussies and they have the audacity to call English people "whinging POMs'

If this gets me in trouble with the Admin I really don't care, I can't stand "Whinging Aussies"

So no matter what happens here now, I'll say no more on the matter.

Just a quick question. Now that the News shows no longer happen, where are the winners of the monthly draws announced? I understand there are going to be Update shows instead, but there was no mention of whether they would include the announcements. I've not seen any posted up on the channel the last couple of months so thought I would ask just in case I've missed anything.

ElCapitan wrote: Wed Dec 20, 2017 3:53 pm Just a quick question. Now that the News shows no longer happen, where are the winners of the monthly draws announced? I understand there are going to be Update shows instead, but there was no mention of whether they would include the announcements. I've not seen any posted up on the channel the last couple of months so thought I would ask just in case I've missed anything.
Hi Rob, yes they will be announced on the update shows lee said he would do, i'm not sure whats happening with those, but im sure lee will sort one out asap.

Is that the one dated the 6th Jan?

I have tried but scrolling through 3 hrs 13 mins must have missed that!!

So is there only to be a Live Friday show from now on?

If so I'm only likely to be able to get to see it some other time as the wife will NOT be happy me saying we can't go out to the pub love.... I need to stay in and watch a 3 hour live show on Models :eeek: :eeek:     lol....

Sorry! I must be appearing thick!

Is there a news show and a live show?

I can only find a News show from last September 2017.

Please excuse my ignorance... I’m new!:
