Study some photos and see what the team did.
In these modern times, they seem much more shall we say neat at adding car#, set# and arrows.
Some dude even drew them out nicely on a computer and printed it up on decal paper....cool idea, would have to use silver ink

Just in time for Easter weekend, so I will have time to read it front to back

Looks a cool book Scott, reminds me of when I was a kid my dad had one for his ford cortina and I helped him change the head gasket, well I say help more like got in the way

I am a bit disappointed....it has more history and race babble than detailed photos of the cars stripped down
There is an exploded view with a few labelling arrows, but it is all pretty simplified stuff.
I wanted to be able to build the real car from it
I think the MFH books would be a better choice $$$$$

I used to know (15yrs ago) a couple nice ladies who owned a publishing company, they used pen names and wrote books from cookery, Cars, Bikes, WW1/2 you name it. They did it by plagiarising the internet, for non or off patent material. I watched her in a matter of hours produce a book on her Mac, all about classic motorcycles couldn't believe it she knew nothing about them! These are the sort of books you find in places along the high street that sell cheap books, I think she and her sister had "written" 200 plus books.

These and many other publications now days are just regurgitation of old material often readily available by so called authors/publishers who are just in it for the money!

Last decals added last night and she is ready to be clear coated
I am going to try Mr Color GX 122 UV cut gloss clear in my airbrush with levelling thinner as the diluent.
"Uv Cut" is supposed to protect vs sunlight degradation, but has a good reputation from well trusted sources that it is super glossy.
Will try to clear her this week or on the weekend.
So some smidgen of progress here

Having an OH SHOOOOT !!! Moment

Decals are being eaten by the GX122 MLT clear coat.
Looked fine after two light coats and 10 mins drying time each, but last wet coat did seems to have done them in
I have not looked at the entire cowling yet, bit scared I will HULK SMASH IT if I do...will wait for morning
Think it is all F’d

Ya, sorry everybody, I have made a big booboo and learned a hard lesson. Apologies for letting you guys down
Got the last mix too hot as I added more MLT and went for a wet look. In one area it attacked the paint, but the decals have all gone crinkly.
It is bad enough to suck away the desire to continue build a display for her. She is finished for now and can stay this way forever.
I could strip her down, repaint and use the decals for the #2 car or order new decals....but that is a massive project at this point when I want it done to move on to other things. I have put her in the geriatric section of the reveal
As is, it looks ok from afar, but is far from good. Live and learn

Sorry to hear about your gloss coat, it can be a real mojo killer I had the seem thing happen to one of my earlier builds.
Keep building and try and learn from it, I only use the 2k gloss coat now as its a bit more forgiving.
Great build and you've added some great details keep them coming.

Funny as I chose this gx122 over the 2k as I thought it would be safer on decals

You didn't let anybody down. Your work is outstanding and a little stumble at the finish line doesn't change anything. This is still an amazing build.

Just have to access if it is worth getting a new sheet of decals, stripping and repainting , redecal and 2 part clear
Not feeling it at the moment to be honest

Bit late to say but 2k is far safer and a lot less hot that gx100 as theres barely any thinner in there. Had this issue myself which is why i will only use the 2k now

Go for the decals I've used indycals before just make sure you order the right scale for the model
I ordered some and didn't realise they were 1/24 instead of 1/20 and the driver you won't.
you've put a lot on time into this build and it deserves to be finished.

It was looking like a great build and you had put in a lot of work. Similar thing happened to me (decal lifted under 2K) in the final stages of my Revell 66 Shelby Mustang build which I’ve yet to finish.

Hi Claire.
Unfortunately this Lotus is still sitting all wrinkly like a prune.
The replacement decals from Indycals were VERY bland and far from the gorgeous cartograph kit decals, so didn’t use them.
A certain Mr Bertland has bought this kit and some aftermarket decals, so I may pry the kit decals out of his hands and go at it again
It is very hard to loop back and re-start something that got messed up. I have my shelf of doom for such projects
