Posting pictures to the Forum using Flickr

Post by Paul »

BobM very kindly did this short tutorial on using Flickr, Photo bucket isn't playing ball any more so i suggest using this from now on. Ive got the app on my phone to use and its free and easy to sign up for

Here is a quick 1, 2, 3 on my Flickr workflow.

I take most of my pictures with an iPhone. These are easily upload directly from the iOS Photos app using the "Share" button. I think this comes with iOS, but you may need to install the free Flickr app. When you upload, by default, your photos end up in two places on your Flickr account, your Camera Roll and your Photostream. There is also an option to add it to a new or existing Album. Multiple photos can be uploaded at once.

If your images are on your computer, I think you can upload using the Flickr website. Or, in my case, directly from Photos on MacOS; Flickr support is builtin to Photos via its "Share" menu item. Select one or more photo's and use either "File > Share > Flickr" from the application menu or "Share > Flickr" from the popup menu (right-click or control-click). These also go to your Flickr Camera Roll and Photostream and there is an option to add to a new or existing album.

Once uploaded I go to my desktop browser, in my case Safari on MacOS, but it works the same on Windows as I occasionally post from my work machine. There you locate you image, click on it and you'll find a sharing button in the lower right. That brings up a form with "Share", "Embed", "Email" and "BBCode". Select "BBCode". There is then a drop down to select the image size, I use "Medium" which appears to be pretty standard. There is also a text box containing all the "code" you need to copy/paste into your post. Make sure you select ALL the text. It should look like this:

Code: Select all

[url=https://flic.kr/p/V1wdUM][img]https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4278/34792805493_54c419f66b_c.jpg[/img][/url][url=https://flic.kr/p/V1wdUM]Friday June 16 Live Show Update[/url] by [url=https://www.flickr.com/photos/147400048@N06/]Bob Mortensen[/url], on Flickr
After pasting I always make one change, I insert a return after:

Code: Select all

[/img][/url]
and before:

Code: Select all

[url=https:...]
so that it now looks like:

Code: Select all

[url=https://flic.kr/p/V1wdUM][img]https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4278/34792805493_54c419f66b_c.jpg[/img][/url]

Here is what you get from that:

Hmmm... :think: I guess that kind of turned into a full fledged tutorial! I hope this helps someone!

Keep on modeling and posting! :cheers2:

If I may make it a bit easier...

The part in the code between the "image" tags

Code: Select all

 [img] until [/img]
is the part of the link that points to your picture.

Code: Select all

[img]https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4278/34792805493_54c419f66b_c.jpg[/img]
Is enough. This is the part that redirects to the picture

The

Code: Select all

[url=https://flic.kr/p/V1wdUM]
part isn't really necessary.

You'll get this result...

if this is an inappropriate 'reply' feel free to remove it :shifty:
Nice tutorial though Bob :thumb1:

There are other photo hosting sites, have a look on google, try not to use the upload function on the forum though as it saps the forums bandwidth

Typical indeed. Knew this would happen! $50 per year doesn't seem too steep though.

Ya I will probable just do that subscription
It bugs me as it wont help with the participation in our forum as others won't pay that and just use Facebook instead

Over at my website, we had the same issue with “the bucket”. Folks had issues with some of the other popular alternatives, and their limits. The one that rose to the top as the easiest and no limits was...
https://postimg.cc

Create an account, and you can then create image folders to store different subjects, which is pretty easy to upload to. When you want to export a pic to the forum of choice, go in your My I ages, find the file folder with the images, and click the share button (little symbol with the three dots connected) and click the Hotlinks for Forums selection.... which copies the link to your clipboard, and paste in the forum post of choice, you get something like this....

This saves space of your forum server too, I would imagine :cheers2:
