Computer Parts - Various for Modeling

Post by hooterville75 »

Does anyone know if there are any parts that are in any computer parts such as Towers, moniters, keyboards, printers, etc that are usable for modeling ? I have a ton of Computer stuff that Im going to take to the recycling center that I would like to rip apart and get all usable parts that could be valuable to me for modeling before I recycle them. Let me know. Thanks. I have various complete computers that are going to be ripped apart so if there are any parts that are valuable and usable to someone in the modeling world and theres something you know you want let me know Ill be sure to rip it out and send it to you before I recycle them. Thanks in advance.

Depends on the scale you are modeling in and if you do a lot of scratch building. I can't think of anything off hand that is a must have from PCs. I do know that there are rare metals, such as gold in the circuit boards and ram chips that are worth some money. So, if you literally have a ton of computer stuff for recycling, you might consider calling a recycler and asking for a quote.

I've seen large scale terrain modelers use capacitors and circuit boards to model interesting bits of wargaming terrain for scifi. I know there are extremely strong and large magnets in the hard drives that are useable for wherever you need magnets. Stripping wires for copper gives you a bendable metal for modeling. Most keyboards have a super thin "plastic-like" wafer in them with imprinted circuits that make great sci-fi material for walls and other bits of a diorama. Again depends on scale.

That's all I got! Good luck with the recycling.
