Eastern Express 1/72 Kamov Ka-18

Post by RangerNeil »

OK folks - I am calling the Ka-18 build finished now. Bit of a nightmare of a kit - although mouldings on this one were relatively clean of flash and there were few if any ejector marks in visible places the overall fit left a bit to be desired - especially the glazing components. The instructions also left a LOT to be desired - particularly in regards to the complex twin rotor head head by Kamov.
Also there were no part numbers on the sprue, nor were there any sprue diagrams to aid in finding parts.

So - a challenging job and I'm the first to admit it could have been a lot better But not too bad, I think, for a return to the hobby after over many years.

Even after all the issues you had bud it’s still an impressive build!

Still absolutely love the livery/colors of it :th:

Got to admit - the early red Aeroflot livery is more striking that the later blue ones. - and certainly suits the shape of this little beast.. When the -58 is finished I will post a pic of them side by side - you would not believe how much bigger the -58 is than the -18 whilst still being a 2-seat side-by-side configuration....

I'm with Hawkmoon, I think I would have jumped up and down on it until it was tiny bits, so your patience and skill in actually making this look like the intended subject are to be commended!: :

I can only echo what the other guys have said mate - really well done for sticking with this nightmare of a kit and knocking into such a good finish!

Thanks for taking part, and for introducing us to another unusual subject :cheers2:
