this will be a diorama of my deployment to honduras in the mid 80's.
hard to believe this was almost 40 years ago.
if i remember correctly it was one of the earlier times the Marines used caat teams. ( combined anti armour teams), a tow jeep from the regimental tow company, a jeep from the dragon platoon of the weapons company, and a heavy machine gun jeep from the new heavy machine gun platoon of the weapons company.
no real doctrine, just a bunch of 19 year olds tearing around the countryside
i had pictures but they were lost in one of my moves so this will be created from my minds eye. that was a great time of change in the Corps, President Regan was pumping a lot of money into the military and we were getting a lot of new equipment. i know for a fact we still had the steel pot helmets and m16A1 rifles, the flak jackets i'm not so sure. when i first got to the fleet we still had the Vietnam flak jackets, and when i got out we had the camo. so i think i will use a mix of the two between the different units, regiment and battalion received equipment at different times. The merdc paint schemes could also be different depending on the deployment so i may do different schemes between the jeeps.
well i've the jeeps and a lot of aftermarket goodies, some figures. i still need more figures.
the tow jeep had a gunner and a driver/a gunner. the machine jeep had a driver/ a gunner and a gunner. the dragon jeep had a driver/squad leader/gunner and a a gunner and another gunner and a gunner. that was my jeep and i'll tell you that was one crowded jeep
i still need a lot of stowage and i'm trying not to think about how to do a jungle dio.
i have been wanting to do this for a long time and i'm glad for the chance to try now
down side is i have a new job and they are forecasting 60-70 hour weeks for the next couple of months. yeah i can buy lot's of modeling stuff, but time is going to be hard to find. i'll try my best. so welcome aboard this should be fun
