Stokesy44 wrote: Mon Mar 23, 2020 9:49 am Colours are looking sharp mate. Is that a Navy or Marine scheme?
Thanks guys :cheers2:

That's a cracking photo @digger303 :)

@Stokesy44 it's the Marine scheme mate - which will hopefully become more apparent in the following update :)

Tomcat's 1/72 Hasegawa Osprey - Build Part 8

Post by Tomcat64 »

With everything happening at the moment I've not had as much time at this as I would have liked, but it's still heading in the right direction despite a couple of set backs.

First up some decals... I don't know why but for some reason over the past couple of years decals have become a bit of a nemesis for me! I picked up an after market set for this build because I wanted something other than the Japanese scheme that came with the kit.

The decal set comprised two sheets, one for unit/national insignia and the other for the stencils.

The unit insignia behaved perfectly - albeit a little shiny but nothing that can't be tackled
Image

The stencils though... well imagine trying to give a cat a bath... after a really frustrating session with crumpled & torn stencilling in highly visible positions I took the decision to remove them and go with the kit stencils instead. And in the process (and frustration) ended up putting a couple of dings in the paintwork underneath; this was not my finest hour...
Image

After leaving it a day I went back in and patched it up a bit
Image

And then went with the kit stencils and the unit insignia I'd original planned from the AM set... so it's a bit of a hybrid and not entirely accurate to the original but frankly bugger it! The vertical stabilisers have also been added and all the setting solution residue cleaned up
Image

After giving it a satin coat (AK) and leaving it overnight it's been drenched in a black clay wash which I hope I'll get around to wiping back this afternoon.
Image

I've also painted up the assorted antennae and wheels etc so it's nearly there...

Thanks for looking in :cheers2:
Cheers, Neil

Tomcat's 1/72 Hasegawa Osprey - Build Part 9

Post by Tomcat64 »

Can't believe it's been two weeks since I coated this in gunk!

Anyway I managed to get some serious bench time today :) I've wiped back all the black gloop, applied a coat of AK ultra matte and picked out some metallic parts with a brush... here are the nacelles...
Image

One confession here was when I realised I'd forgotten to rescribe the missing panel lines from the tops... so not wishing to screw up the paint I used masking tape as a guide and drew them back in with a 0.05 marker... not perfect but they'll pass from a distance :shifty:
Image

The rotors with their decals in place, and the roots picked out in sky grey
Image

And all connected up...
Image

And attached to the fuselage. I've got a little tidying up to do but it's getting there
Image

Just need to add the wheels and antennae and pick out a little more detail with panel liner and I think we'll be there hopefully later this weekend :)

Thanks as always for looking :cheers2:
Cheers, Neil

Tomcat's 1/72 Hasegawa Osprey - Build Part 10

Post by Tomcat64 »

Well it's amazing what a couple of days at the bench with no distractions can achieve isn't it!

Wheels were added and given a quick wash with Vallejo black
Image

Despite the best efforts of the tweezers and my ten left-handed thumbs all the antennae and other small fins etc were fitted as well with a dab of CA
Image

And with a bit of touching up here and there that was the Osprey done...
Image

Image

The kit came with a decent flying base, so that was given a coat of Vallejo Sand Yellow, followed by textured sand and finished off with some static grass and random bushes & rocks all held in with white glue
Image

So there we have it - to see how it all turned out head over to the reveal section here
Image

Thanks as always to everyone that stopped by to take a look and especially those who took the time to drop a comment (or photo :) ) and offer encouragement :cheers2:
Cheers, Neil
