I need some help. I am having a hard time figuring out exactly where the wheel decals are supposed to be placed. The illustration shows what looks to be the first flat spot but that is only about half the space that is required for the decal. Am I supposed to put it on the outermost edge and wrap the black edges around? I am having a hard time finding close up images of the wheels.

Yh there a pain to fit as the clear decal edge stops it going into position properly. You can go two ways trim off the outer excess [clear edge] and then tuck them straight into the wheel edge or do what I did and put decal softener around the edge of the wheel first. I then laid the decal across the softener and left it to do its work after a couple of minutes I worked the decal into position with decal tweezers and cotton buds. The decal should end up with the color edge against the wheel angle doing it that way.

I was able to get the wheels done. The front wheel has quite a bit more room than the rear for some reason.

I got the spring assembly installed.

The rest of the body got decals as well.

Forgot about the front brake disc. Fiddly as all but finally together. One more to go.

I got some Zero Paints Diamond 2K clear down on the parts that require it. Not too bad. I have a run that I think I can sand out and polish back, but other than that not bad at all.

I have made a mistake (again). I didn't like the way the front fender turned out. I had a few wrinkles in the CF decals, but what did it for me, in the end, was the clear coat. I made my final wet coat too heavy and had some pronounced edges. So I decided to try and fix it.

Image

Now I am awaiting a replacement sprue to arrive from SpotModel in Spain. Looks like I am on the sidelines for the next couple of weeks. I can proceed in a few places, but I am not sure if I can put the fender on out of order. I will study the instructions a bit more.

It has been a while since I last updated. Unfortunately, not much has happened. The Top Studio set is really nice but the PE work is apparently, above my skill level. The front rotors require you to bend the inner support. It is extremely tricky to bend a hexagonal part. When I finally got everything glued up and painted the "bend" wasn't quite right and the rotors didn't fit between the forks. I squeezed them a bit and got them in but the CA glue cracked. I went to put in the screw and found that CA and paint had closed up the center hole enough that the screw wouldn't fit. I pulled the wheel out and used a drill bit to ream out the holes. One side opened up perfectly. The other side did not. The drill bit caught onto something and the weakened CA glue gave up. The entire center section snapped out. The only thing that held was a little bit of the hub stuck to the wheel. I used my Tamiya pointy tweezers to pop off that part from the hub. The part went flying and I was left bleeding.

Image

Those tweezers are quite sharp.

I have all of the parts cleaned up and flattened ready for another try. This time I annealed the part for bending with a micro torch. Hopefully, I will get some bench time later today. Seeing all of the finished builds makes me want to get off my bum and finish.

Finally made some progress. I kept running into a wall with the PE front rotors. So, in order to move forward I chose to cheat. I cut out the center part of the kit rotors and glued on the PE parts.

Way to push through it all to come up with a really nice result. Oh, and sorry to hear about that little scratch on your finger (just kidding)... I have several of these still to build myself. Watching all of you turn out some great results is getting me motivated to try one. I just hope I can complete it without scratching my pinky (really, just kidding...)

Seriously, ...... GOOD JOB!

Minor update. Some of the decals on the side panels didn't survive clear coating. The clear coat made them very brittle and they flaked off. So I carefully masked off the area and sanded down the edges and removed the clear. Knowing I couldn't get a good shine without clearing again, I just went for a matte black to give some variation. It isn't perfect but looks way better than the flaking decals.

Did some work on the interior side panels. I have the components painted and have the decals placed. I have routed some of the wirings and added some additional wire.
