Anyone used Warhammer Nuln oil?
Anyone used Warhammer Nuln oil?
Hi all,
I have watched a few Youtube channels and someone mentioned the use of the Games Workshop Nuln oil which seems to give additional definition though slightly weathering models. It seems to work really well on some of the engine and gearbox parts as well as suspension and gives an extra depth as it highlights details.
Just wondering if anyone has used any of it, might get myself some as it seems quite simple to get a great effect.

I’ve used it on minis works very well.

I used it on a star wars at at. Tis very good stuff. I really like the citadel paint system which I have started using for minis and the odd scale model parts
Re: Anyone used Warhammer Nuln oil?
Yes, I used. Especially for the tinted shade, for example Gun Metal (AK Extreme Metal) is a bit too light for me and I always put a thin coat of Nun Oil on top of it

Re: Anyone used Warhammer Nuln oil?
I used to use it lots when I was in the wargaming hobby, but now that I've all but completely transitioned into the scale modelling hobby, I find oils and enamels make much better washes. Of course like belfer said, it can make a pretty good shader if you want to recolor a whole part.

Re: Anyone used Warhammer Nuln oil?
I bought some because everyone was raving about how good it was. On using it I found it was just a light shade of Ak grease effects more like Tamiya smoke in density.
So it is Ok and worth buying, but could be made from Oils using lamp black, thinning Ak grease or something similar.

Re: Anyone used Warhammer Nuln oil?
Midwinter Minis has a good video on how to make your own washes/Nuln oil. His video on how to make your own acrylic medium completely changed how I brush paint. The acrylic medium is pure magic.
Re: Anyone used Warhammer Nuln oil?
Good pointer and recipe.

Re: Anyone used Warhammer Nuln oil?
My only use of Citadel paints so far has been to put a bit of Babad Black wash onto the radiator surfaces of a 1/72 Hawker Hurricane. I think it worked great!

It does indeed. Can we see the rest of the Hurricane.

Re: Anyone used Warhammer Nuln oil?
These are the two best photos of my Hurc after my first attempt at airbrushing.

That was as far as I got with it. I ran out of the Gunze-Sangyo Aqueous Dark Earth and couldn't get anymore as they don't make that particular paint anymore. I did get some Mr. Hobby Aqueous, but it didn't match. As my airbrushing leaves a lot to be desired and cold weather was setting in, I couldn't continue using the airbrush any longer. Also, my mojo took a slump. I just put the model back into it's box and there is sits. When I can get back to building again, I have another Airfix Hurricane that I will build to replace this one. I have a plan!

The camo looks pretty good especially for a first attempt.

Re: Anyone used Warhammer Nuln oil?
I just posted the best photos, taken at the best angles. Some of the others show a much worse paint job.
