The funny thing is mate, I could walk you through this engine now and many of it’s cool idiosyncrasies
It is the deep dive into a subject that makes modelling fun…researching and learning about it
I spent a couple full days watching videos and looking at photos and articles on the Black Shadow

Its great when the hobby becomes totally immersive like that. You get swallowed up by the build and it becomes so much more than simply following instructions. Not quite the Odyssey but certainly a journey along a path seldom trod.Twokidsnosleep wrote: ↑Wed Aug 04, 2021 6:08 amThe funny thing is mate, I could walk you through this engine now and many of it’s cool idiosyncrasies

Cheers mate, hope the job is going ok
We got a rainy weekend here, so after I get the paperwork and such done at the office Saturday I will get some bench time too
I snuck a little in this morning and had to re-cement the frame-engine-fork assembly as it all popped apart
I am on to the fuel delivery, carburetors, fuel tank systems. I at least understand where everything has to go, just have to make the lines and the connections
Again lots of fiddliness. Film at eleven

Re: Vincent Black Shadow Revell 1/12
Here is Saturday’s work: fuel system
Right side carburetor, fuel filter, petrol line and stop cock that goes to the bottom of the tank
This is the reference pic of the real bike, which is unbelievably clean

Mine dry fitted still as lots of adjustment needed to fit tank on and tubing in.

The left side connects to the right via a fuel line that runs under the tank and links the two carbs/filters so both sides of the gas tank supply both carbs. Both sides have a fuel shut off valve= stop cock.
Mine are made from watch parts…it was a second hand I think

Yellow and red lines are battery leads are also visible but not routed yet
Reference for that side

This is an amazing build... I remember the old Matchbox kits so can appreciate all the issues you have hit - and overcome with style!! Really looking forwards to seeing the finished item!!
(Do feel obliged to point out that if you modded a real Black Shadow like that here in the UK the owners club would likely have you dangling from a lamp post!!)

Re: Vincent Black Shadow Revell 1/12
Messing with the petrol tank now
The engineering of this bike is very interesting
The oil tank is a triangle around the main frame above the engine. The gas tank straddles this tank and has an oil cap and a petrol cap

For the two caps, I used my watch parts again and will use the gold one for the oil cap and the silver for the petrol

Hoping to get the tank 2k cleared the coming weekend....but time and amount of clear I have remaining may say otherwise

Re: Vincent Black Shadow Revell 1/12
Going so slow on my modelling, very embarrased
Tested out the exhaust system
I wrapped the pipes in black hockey tape and just posed them rough to decide options for the length of the pipe
I am thinking to make it shorter

My thought is to cut the pipe short at the silencer buldge.
Maybe finish the black where I have and make a polished aluminum section with a slight flare out for the rest
Thoughts and input welcomed

The hockey tape looks brilliant!
I agree, cut it at the muffler and a bit of polished aluminum would add some good interest. I think a straight pipe rather than a flared end would look better though.

Hells bells ya got got a flat.....sorry I shouldn't be flippant I know it would have torn you apart.
It's the reason I don't like vinyl/rubber tyres or tracks plus paint can attack them too.
Can you get a resin replacement ?
The chrome straight exhaust was definitely the best choice for a truly excellent build.

Love the work so far. Its sad to see the tire cracking. I had that happen to an older revival kit and it went into four pieces. I used CA glue to reassemble mine too. It had to be applied in several layers. The first to set the tire and the others to fill the void with only minimal rework of the tread pattern.
If you do not like the CA glue method, perhaps you can cast them yourself using the old ones as the master?
I agree with the digger on the chrome straight pipe; it balances the chrome accents of the engine and the spoked wheels.
Good luck on the rear tire.....

Re: Vincent Black Shadow Revell 1/12
This was my brainstorming for the rear tire fix:
Attempt 1: Ca glue, hold and use kicker...no I need to clamp it in place somehow
Attempt 2: Tamiya ABS glue blue (bottle)..melted some rubber but not stick well
Attempt 3: brass spike drilled into either side and Ca glued everything in...Yes, success. Physical hold of brass spike + glue kept tire crack closed

Good fix nothing like the old glue and pin method. I do suspect it may reoccur though when I think why it broke originally....it must have had a degree of stretch.
However I don't wish that upon you and truly hope it doesn't happen.

Supposedly the only thing different between your set up and the big commercial ones is their software compensates for a lot of the variables where as you have to set each one up yourself and do a lot more thinking about how to execute the job in hand. I don't have that drive to do that....so hats off to you and best wishes in this endevour.
