Chrome Spray???

Post by Twokidsnosleep »

My Molotow large refill has gone off and no longer gives a mirror finish
I cannot justify $50 on Amazon for another one
Anyone using a paint etc in airbrush that gives true mirror finish?
Looking for some alternatives

Alclad 2 Lacquers do a Chrome. They have a good reputation for metal colors. looks to be widely available too.

Or there's AK's extreme metals too. Again a good reputation.
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.

Mirror chrome - pretty much the holy grail of metal colors. Definitely avoid the Vallejo product as their metal range is acrylic. Its lovely paint but it wont get you near what you want if you're after the shine.

That's the limit of my knowledge mate. Sounds like you're after something a little more exotic than I've had exposure to. :th:

Yep and thats why I won't buy another of the pens.

Consider nail polish mirror. It goes down with a 2 part process using a milky base then go over with the metallic colour and gives a pretty good result. I've never AB'ed this stuff and when I've brushed it you have to be quick or it starts to dry and you don't get very big bottles either, but it is cheap. Use uv light to cure between coats for a minute.

Ahh yes
Matthew had suggested that too
Is it the gel nail polish and can it be thinned
I think Kingdan used a nail polish finish on one of his kits, will have to ask him
and YES they are much cheaper than model products

The one I have isn't a gel type and I don't think you would have to thin this as it looks very liquid as it is....small bottles.

Bit the bullet and ordered two cans to get free shipping from Ontario
This stuff is the best chrome paint I have ever sprayed
About 24 hrs and then it is solid to the touch

I totally agree. It isn’t cheap but completely amazed at this paint.
No real need to do a black gloss base, but it can go over that too
Who would have thought Revell
