Post by Quax »

This is my entry for Bifford's 50th birthday bash!

Image

however as my workbench looks like this it may take a bit of time, plus I don't have any IJN paint yet!

Off to a good start. Cockpit looks nice and busy for 1/72.
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.

Like Stokesy said, you know being Tamiya that the mold and fit quality is there.

Looking nice so far.

thanks for the comments, always appreciated! :cheers2: :cheers2:
a few bits to catch up on now, the cockpit area has been primed with Mr Surfacer 1500 black then coated with Tamiya XF 71 Cockpit Green (IJN) There are decals for the instrument panel and the seat belt, the seat belt isn't great and slightly out of scale but at 1/72 its liveable with and the fuselage halves joined together with the wings added

any hairs in the photos were provided by my sponsor...

the only real sanding required was on the spine behind the cockpit but it didn't take too long. The rest of the kit was assembled (apart from the bits I would break...) The kit comes with two canopy choices either open or closed so I've used the closed one as a blank and masked off the other two bits ready to prime with Mr Surfacer again.

Ive now added the top coat of Tamiya LP 33 Gray Green (IJN) to which I added a little XF 55 Deck Tan. When this has fully dried I'm going to come back and do a little post shade in a few panels with the plain LP33 as a post shade

on the downward slope now, as I said previously I came back and gave it a light post shade with the original colour and gave the cowling a coat of Tamiya Semi Gloss Black and than following a coat of Alclad gloss it was down to decals. These Tamiya decals are rather thick and vinyly so even with Ultimate super strength setting solution it was of limited success particularly with the Hinomaru, I would certainly look at a secondary set if I were to repeat the exercise...

Image

I then used a panel wash of Modellers Black Brown oil wash and added a few silver chips but they are quite subtle. the end was then a bit of streaking with Starship filth and Fuel stains oil brushers rubbed in!

Thanks for following and all the kind comments, a couple more photos the Finished section.

Cheers
