Paintwork is looking good Paul, those paints certainly seem perfect for this. One of the joys of using a paint set purely dedicated to one type of subject eh!

Cheers fellas

Not much to update/change really, got all the panels that needed spraying masked off and sprayed, tonight it was given two coats of clear in preparation of decaling, tomorrow im going to focus on the landing gear :th:

Oh one thing i did do, was remove the rear canopy, when i glued it in position it dried on a funny angle and was protruding one side so i got a small blade in and cut it free, it friction fits now and ill leave it like that so it can be displayed open or shut.

Cheers guys, Im learning as I go too :th:

So I made start on the ordinance. 2 Alamo and 4 archer missiles.

Image

Great detail

Image

These where primed and they sprayed white.

Then masked up, it took me 90 minutes just to mask up and spray the burnt iron and FS grey on these two :ooops:

Image

Image

The fins were sprayed in mr hobby burnt iron and the nose in an FS dark grey

Image

The 4 archers were sprayed white and the nose sprayed FS dark gray :th:

Not a terribly interesting update, but part of the process

So after a busy week back to this

I started by spraying the exhausts in mr hobby buff able iron and dark iron, I love these paints, I think they are useless on larger areas as they pull of with masking tape and when touching it, but for small areas they are great.

So before on the left and when buffed on the right, you simply spray them on (no primer) in fairly thick coats, then when dry buff with fingers, cotton buds and cloths.

Image

Image

I also started on the decals today too got a few down will do more later, they are fantastic decals, probably the best I've used, really flat, and release nice and fast from the backing paper, they also dry nice and flat with no silvering, the pic shows them before any setting solution :th:

Image

Gotta love shark mouths too 8-)

That's incredible. I've never seen decals do that before... not that well.
Sweet. That kit just keeps getting better and better.
I'm going to start looking at some of Great Wall's other kits, just to see if they've done this well with the others.

Ok so yesterday I said I was done with decaling I was wrong as I still had the ordnance and pylons to do and I was going to leave the stencils off from underneath. But it's been nagging at me so today I did all the ones underneath, pylons and most of the ones on the missiles. I must have out on about 150+ decals in the last couple of days. Nearly there now though :wtf:

So decals on the plane dry and the pylons and missiles are setting.

Got the new mk2 ultimate dark dirt wash applied using a brush to the entire aircraft including the landing bays :th:

Just need to let it dry :eeek:

So got all the wash off and...

Its works awesome :th:

All the panel lines recesses and rivets show nicely, i did lose a little detail after the vallejo primer spraying on a little too thick but only a bit of detail.

The Mk2 Dark Dirt wash from ultimate is a massive improvement over the other one, leaving a nice dark wash behind once dry and so easy to remove with moistened kitchen roll and cotton buds. :th: :cheers2:
Image
Image

Got a few bits to attach befire i give it a matt coat.
Then need to sort out the missiles/pylons, landing gear and attach the exhausts and she is all done :th:

Looks good Paul. Maybe I will use some of the Ultimate Dark Dirt on the Hawk then. None of the washes I currently have are the right kind for slapping all over the model and removing once dry. The Citadel ones are good, but tend to adhere to the entire surface too well to then remove from the areas its not needed. And I have no luck with oil washes.

Well I let it all dry for a while, then added a few layers of Klear over the problem area and from some angles you can still see it, but overall it looks much better. So should be able to get some decals down tomorrow.

So the mig is fully decaled now, never seen so many on one aircraft.

The missiles and pylons are ready for a matt coat, these 6 missiles and pylons have 134 decals on them alone :wtf:
Image

I also made a "runway" base today, been meaning to make a larger one as the other one i made is too small for any jets over 1/144 scale

So i used a nice piece of 18mm mdf

I Scribed the concrete section lines into it using a tamiya p cutter, it was then sprayed with tamiya grey spray can primer.
Image

This was then post shaded using a darker mr hobby grey, and using vallejo acrylic wash in the actual scribed lines to give it depth.
ImageImage

The yellow lines where masked off and sprayed mr hobby yellow, Using pva and some scenery grass i also added a grass verge

Image
Image

And finally added a few oil stains and added some black stains to the yellow lines
