Airfix "The Western Front" gift set

Post by trekfanj »

I actually built this almost two years ago (one of which was used to actually finish it) but with the 100th anniversary of the First World War I decided to post some photos of it.

Basically, this is two of Airfix's WW1 Mk. 1 tanks, a set of their British WW1 infantry, a set of their German WW1 infantry, a small tube of Humbrol glue, a small collection of Humbrol paints to paint the tanks, and two exactly identical vacuformed landscape sections to make the battlefield.

I added Emhar's British and German artillery to mostly give the Germans some hardware of their own, but also to show how artillery and machine guns brought about the trench warfare the First World War is best remembered for.

The entire diorama takes up a two foot by two foot space, so while the scale is tiny, the actual scene isn't!

The tanks are actually Mk.2, not Mk.1. Both come with parts to make Male tanks armed with cannons, but only one has parts to make a Female armed with machine guns. I drilled out the cannons for the Male tank.

Holy crap....that's a boggy mess that they had to endure back then!

I like the sepia tone images, it adds to the drama!

Thanks for sharing.

Cheers,

Martin

I'm glad you guys like the mud; that was what I had the most fun doing! And I like the sepia effect, too, it gives the photos a more authentic feel.
