1/48 Revell TBF Avenger Reveal

Post by HistoryRider »

Well Guys,

It has been a long and arduous journey with this beast. I have learned a lot about modeling and about myself during this build. I want to thank every single one of you for the inspiration and support you have all given me during this project. With all of your helpful hits, tips, and tricks, and occasional critique, I have successfully completed the Grumman TBF Avenger.

Again thank you ALL! And I hope you enjoy the final product!!!!!
:cheers2:

Great job History on an old Revell kit with raised details. You made an excellent job of masking the canopy...those frames have nice crisp clean edges. I don't have the patience to do that, it drives me insane! :bash: So, I tend to use a fine brush and then when it's dry, I sharpen a tooth-pick and delicately remove any over-paint.

Was this a politically motivated build? ; )~

Cheers, :cheers2:

:th: Great work! I remember seeing this image when Bush was President. That's him in the water. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for this mission. Dropped his bombs on target even after being hit.

Thanks Martin! The canopy was tough but what drove me insane on this was the decals. On more than half of them, the paint sloughed off of the transfer so I ended up with tiny clear little strips....

No, not COMPLETELY a politically motived build, it was the only version of the kit that used the Tri-Color cammo scheme!

Thanks! This one was a real doozie, but I managed it! I actually got to see his other plane that is in the USS Intrepid or USS Hornet.

Thank you guys! I greatly appreciate the support. This was one of the toughest kits I have ever tackled. With just the sheer amount of fixing that had to be done and the lack of detail, instructions, and poor overall quality, it took lots of courage and patience not to just junk it. This kit is going to the TOP of the shelf as a reminder to all other kits, "It COULD be worse."

again Thanks!! :cheers2: :th:
