Coen wrote:Vallejo model colour and life colour are really good brush paints.
But if you're going to be going into figure painting in a more serious way then maybe some of the scale 75 range is more what you want to look at.
Tamiya is meant to be sprayed. It's alcohol based (says so on the label as well as thier site) so it dries uber fast. Not really the best for brush painting.
You can retard it with lacquer thinners or or products, but myself, I prefer a paint that will do more than one thing and I don't have to "fix" it.
Trying to get some Vallejo stuff and I need to mail order it.
I am kind of hooped as can't order anything online as we move soon.
So, I found a Games Workshop store nearby and got this...good to support a local store
Image

The paint has a good reputation, but the knock is it dries out in those bottles. I might move them to plastic dropper bottles.
Always a sucker for a tool, came with a sprue cutter .....that is why I chose the set.
The colors are weirdly named and have different properties so I painted a dot on the lid of each for quick reference
Got a little Hobbit figure set as well to practice on and make for my daughter who loves that series

Starting to paint the camera man. I like how this Citadel paint handles so far
Lots of detail stuff to do on him still, but the Citadel is good so far. Will show closer when I get him detailed properly
He is kneeling on the filming bridge I finished it's wood effects, maybe a bit of weathering to do still to mess it up

He started out as one of these Marines...the grenade launcher guy actuallyImage

This is his work after his Vietnam tour....cameraman missing a hand!!!
He looks pretty good in civilian clothes; still has a bit of helmet head from where I carved it off his mellon with an exacto blade
I have another pilot I am making it George Lucas, still in the works

This Bandai X-Wing kit is absolutely awesome.
Not a stitch of glue and she goes together perfectly. Kids snap together my butt; it is a great well engineered adult kit.
I have decals, accent paint and a lot more weathering/sliming to do, but she is a nice little bird perched in the dio

Next up is trees and some swamp planning

Will do another pic on W/E with them on and weathered

Here is what I used for the canopy window....tinted Mylar from a disposable eye sheild
Image

And here are Mr Coen's Blasted Blasters :pistols: :pistols:
Image

The canopy sits funny now as I made two brass suport rods to prop it open a'la the scene I am trying to depict

I will probably remove the left side blaster and such to submerge the wing in the swamp

Feeling better, but not able to model for a couple weeks at least due to a house move
We are busy packing up, cleaning rented house up and trying to sell re-useable stuff from the old home
This is my summer holiday of almost week off....had to work today
So no x wing for a bit, will be back after it in September

Thanks mate
We have two moves to do ;One to a rental house for a yearish and then another back to new house after construction.
It is kind of weirdly unreal to be packing up from the only house my kids have known
I have staked out a spare room for modelling and put the desk together in the rental

Tetanus shot needed , no infection developed and wound quickly healed.....just my foot muscles hurt like heck after a day of work. So I have to have it up and iced. Hard to do modelling like that
Our house build sucks at the moment as well due to beurocracy of city hall...nothing happening but lots of money going out

Yeah, back to some modelling
This was my inspiration video for water effects...using cheap home improvement centre silicone caulking for $6

You might want to get the paintable version and crystal clear

I made this little diorama as a test mule
Image
Image

Not bad, must get all your colour in the base painting as only dry brush accents on top layer
I blab about this more in my dio thread
http://www.intscalemodeller.com/viewtop ... 40&t=13356
So I have lead weighted the X wing's nose, filled crack lines and holes in the base, repainted it and have run out of weekend
More when I can later :cheers2:

Your Halifax model and base were an inspiration as well to get moving on this technique
I used the cheapest GE clear Silicone caulk that I could find at Home Depot for the water
