Holy crap Scott!!
That's fantastic detail for 1/72. Well far better than anything I can do at that scale.
Damn that's nice.

I think I just read something you wrote about never being happy with ones work and when the day comes that you are, you should stop doing it.....very true, I have self criticism down to a fine art form.
Every time I look at R2 he beeps "oven bath" to me

Looks like you brush painted the white as well.
Why not use the ab for the white?

Re: Swampy X Wing and some robots

by Twokidsnosleep
Nope the white was fine primer spray can
Brushed clear on him after for gloss and protection

Sucks loading up the AB to do such small stuff....handling parts, low paint volumes CLEAN UP
I don't think many small war game figure guys use AB after the black primer they use
Just needed my paint better mixed as pigment was too chunky
I will mask and paint the body with the AB though

I found a second R2 D2 in the kit and am making him up....will use the decals this time and see how it compares to my fugly paint job
The fugly one will get slimed in the diorama and the pretty one displayed...if you can display 1/72 figures

Thanks Will, always good to hear from you

I have been researching figure painting over the last few days. There are some amazing figure work that guys are doing, especially in the fantasy game D&D kind of areas. The skills are very humbling, but hopefully I can pick up a few things. 1/72 scale is ludicrous to work in!!!
Looks like I need to move away from my Tamiya acrylic paints which opens up a whole can of worms as to what acrylic paint to get into :

Vallejo model colour and life colour are really good brush paints.
But if you're going to be going into figure painting in a more serious way then maybe some of the scale 75 range is more what you want to look at.
Tamiya is meant to be sprayed. It's alcohol based (says so on the label as well as thier site) so it dries uber fast. Not really the best for brush painting.
You can retard it with lacquer thinners or or products, but myself, I prefer a paint that will do more than one thing and I don't have to "fix" it.

Thanks, that is exactly what I was looking at. There are many new colours Vallejo is making for the world of gamers....brighter colours
I was thinking Model Air for spray and Model Colour/Game Colour for brush
Where the heck do you buy this stuff though????

If you can't find it at a modelshop, try it at a Airbrushshop. Sorry, I don't know of any where you live..

I buy almost all of my paint from Luckymodel (http://www.luckymodel.com( or Greathobbies (http://www.greathobbies.com/)

The trick with luckymodel is when you're searching for paint... search for the paint itself, don't click the "Paint" tab and look there. You probabaly won't find what you're looking for.
Also... if it says it's out of stock for 2-3 weeks restock, don't order it anyway. Chances are they won't fulfill your order and they won't tell you either.
They see it as your responsibility to keep track of the orders that you place.
When you ask them about it they'll give you a store credit for your order. They don't give money back unless you do a paypal dispute. and if you do that they won't sell to you anymore :eeek:

Howdy
Got the rough engine and wing assembly done during the week and finished R2D2 #2 tonight. Have to decide if I mix my own xf-19 sky grey or wait until next weekend when my model shops are open again.
Top right is a little rebel-decaled part holder cup made one bored night...has a lead bottom.

#2 R2 is definitely a cleaner paint job overall, but will use #1 in the dio

I have to work on getting the scale of things in the film area correct, harder than I thought

So this is what I am trying to make this afternoon
Image

Some random guy sitting with his camera...Jeff or George or something he said his name was
Image
So pretty rough but here is my path of destruction so far
Rods n stuff
Image
Image
Camera on rails and a pin so it is moveable l to r and rotates
Image
Image
Wood planks are glued in and pilings made of wood dowel test fitted. Testing some paint and stain on the wood
I did some wood work, some metal work, soldering and a lot of CA gluing
The camera will look better when painted and detailed
I think I am spent for the night

The good thing about being a dog owner is you don't look like a lunatic scrounging around in the bush looking for twigs with moss and lichen on them
I bought a bag at the LHS as well to supplement Image

I could not bring myself to buy the water effects stuff from the same company.....it was $35!!!! for like 500ml
There has to be something else out there that is cheap :
