I just commented on your build thread, but again awesome winter wash Hetz bud

Great job Mike. especially like the rust and wash. Hey can I ask what you used for the net and the ties? Looks like a bandage? I haven't found the right stuff to make one yet

The net is just a piece of the lining from the inside of one of my kids old shirts. They put this liner in them to keep the empbroidery from hurting the kids skin, it falls out after a while. I keep the stuff for tarps and nets.
The strap is just led strips.
I buy those from UMM-USA. They come in all sorts of widths and thicknesses.

It's true... I totally hate painting and I suck at it.... I do love weathering though... That I think I can pull off not half bad

No dio, no figures. No aftermarket and it's a tiny little Tamiya kit that was built in a few hours.
Takes me no time at all to build something like that.
Two or three days tops.

You're already done and I haven't even started.

So I get the impression that Tamiya isn't your go-to brand - just too easy. Nothing wrong with those over simplified models of theirs, makes you feel like a master of the universe when you're drinking a boat load of beer and still manage to build the model with no errors.

Needless to say but I like the results - the winter wash is just too cool no matter what!

Another splendid result mike, i have airfix 1 72 planes for similar reasons but even they are taking longer than they did.

Six days to build paint and weather is a bit too fast of a build for my tastes.
I know that the dragon jadg 38(t) would have taken at least that long to build because I've already built one, and it took me about a week to knock her together.
I'm really lucky and have tonnes of time availible to me for modelling, so a build that's done in a few hours is something I try to avoid. I can appreciate the cleverness and the engineering of a Tamiya kit, they're incredibly well designed kits.
They're price structure is ridiculous though, they're kits are made so everyone can build them, but priced so that only the privileged can buy them.
That's a self destructive business model if I've even seen one, since the "privileged" that they're selling too are us old stodgy buggers that are dying off. They need to drop those prices and sell to the kids, not just us dusty farts with wallets.

I agree totally, the only cheaper tamiya kits are decades old and show it, i for one prefer a higher parts count, as long as two thirds of the parts arent the tracks, means i dont go through kits so rapidly, one a week is plenty and one a fortnight keeps the bank manager happier!

Coen, really well done nice build and paint work, the weathering is really outstanding, mean all the model is outstanding but the weathering is really awesome , did you use only Ultimate washes? also for the rust?

The only oils that I used were for the rust streaks on the hull sides. All of the other weathering was done with Ultimate washes.
It's my second attempt at doing that and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Surprised as well. I didn't think that I could get the refined effects that I normally could get with oils but I was wrong. The 3D value alone of using the washes opens a whole new aspect that I've never explored before.
