The L 2 H 43 and L 2 H 143 "Krupp-Protze" (unofficial designation) was a six-wheeled 6x4 German truck and artillery tractor produced between 1934 and 1941 and heavily used in World War II. It was powered by a 55 hp or, from 1936, 60 hp Krupp M 304 4-cylinder petrol engine. Its main purpose was to tow artillery, especially the PaK 36, and transport motorized infantry.

This vehicle was extensively used on the Eastern Front, during the North African campaign and in France and Sicily. The "Krupp-Protze" was of relatively advanced design. Its fuel consumption was relatively high (24 Litres / 100 km on road) in comparison to the comparable Opel Blitz 1.5 t truck (16.5 liters / 100 km, produced 1938 - 1942). Total production was about 7,000 units.

A successful design, the Krupp-Protze was converted into several variants:
Kfz.19 - Telephone truck
Kfz.21 - Staff car
Kfz.68 - Radio mast carrier
Kfz.69 - Standard configuration for towing the 3,7 cm PaK 36
Kfz.70 - Standard configuration for personnel carrying

Kfz.83 - Generator carrier for anti-aircraft spotlight, usually towed
Sd.Kfz. 247 Ausf. A - Armoured personnel carrier, six-wheeled version, only 20 built in 1937; production went to Daimler-Benz, who built the Ausf. B four-wheeled version in 1941 and 1942.

Sometimes anti-tank (37 mm Pak 36) and anti-air (2 cm Flak) guns were mounted directly on the truck bed. Note on troop carrying capacity: Kfz.69 carried 2 in front with 4 in a pair of forward and rear facing seats (2+2+2); Kfz.70 carried 2 in front with 10 seated in the rear bed benches (2+10).

Progress Report,,,,,,,,,

Build is coming along very nicely with no major problems at the moment (except me), just a small bit of filling with Deluxe perfect putty on the nose.

Seats are dry fitted to the drivers cabin and also to the crew compartment.

Now it's time to start on the engine and chassis then prime and get some paint down.

Some of the photography leave a lot to be desired but you get the idea.

Thanks for looking, Les

I left this build with the engine, cabin, crew area and nose section ready for priming. I have also built the axle's wheels and got the small bits ready for primeing.

Everything is primed in Ultimate white then the main body, axles and wheel hubs are painted in Tamiy German Grey XF-63 the seat cushions are sprayed in XF-64 Red Brown and the exhaust in Flat Brown XF-10.

Next stage will be to mask the wheels and paint, the put the thing together.

Ok so now the Krupp is onto the build stage,
I have fitted the painted seat cushions to both the drivers cabin and the crew compartment. The wheel hubs and axles are fitted as is the exhaust system to the chassis.

Just let the glue dry and then get the main body and the bonnet on and a wee bit of tidying up.

Started to build the truck last night before going to work, seems to be going together very well.

Have dabbed and dry brushed some flat aluminium onto her to simulate some chips and where the crew have rubbed paint off with their boots etc.

See what you think>>>>>

I have begun to construct the 3.7cm Pak so will see ya all soon.

I tried to post some pics of this last night but photobucket was playing up.

So I have the Pak built and painted a little bit of dabbing on the front plate with a sponge and silver paint to simulate the chipping, the next stage will be to give her a little gloss coat, weather and fit the small parts to the truck.

This is what she looks like just now.

Hello All,
It has been a few days since I updated, Since then I have given her a gloss coat, Ultimate light dirt, decaled and dressed her up a bit with tin hats weapons and kit.

She has been finished in the markings of the 2nd Company, 44th Tank Destroyer Battalion, 1st Mountain Division in the Ukraine June 1941. I've never been to the Ukraine but I imagine in the height of summer it's quite a dusty place hence the Ultimate light dirt.

All that remains now is to give her either a satin or a matte coat and add the clear windscreen.

Thanks again for having a look, I daresay the next update will be the finished article on the final reveal page, but I'll see how it looks later.
