Tamiya kept their 1/72 scale Falcon kit from the 1980 ties alive (built a couple back then) for a long long time.
Way to long if You ask me...
But then two years ago they released a new one, a baby brother to their fantastic 1/48 which in turn is a baby brother to the 1/32 monster kit.
Last year they did a re-release of the 2014 kit upgraded with all the weapons and pods.
I thought long and hard before entering...looked through the stash for something Tamiya I wanted to build OOB as the rules say.
Have about 10-12 Tamiya kits but all have aftermarket plans, and most have it already bought and in the box.
Came down to one kit, the 1/48 Falcon. But since my work is what it is and time can become scarse, I wanted to be 110% sure this time to finish so I shelved it again.
Instead I bought this smaller one with half the parts count (131 vs 26X) and raving reviews on how well it goes together.
The kit

The kit is definitely next gen and on par with the latest Trumpeter and Eduard 1/72 kits. Surface detail is fantastic and moulding/plastic quality is Tamiya standard = second to none.

Extremely fine surface detail, forget dedicated primers and multiple layers of paint...

Tamiya clear parts...say no more

Nice decals, however decals is an area where Tamiya has room for improvement still...always thick and stubborn.

There is a fold out w some background info talking about the many variants of the Falcon.

Separate fold out for the paint/decal instructions. Two options are included.

And finally the instructions, the standard b/w fold out for their 1/72 and 1/48 kits.

Hope to get going tomorrow!
