1/35 King Tiger (Panzerkampfwagen Tiger Ausf. B, Henschel Turret)
July 1945 project by Ammo Mig ( kit AMIG8500). Manufacturer of which is TAKOM and produced exclusively for AMMO.
I bought this one at Moson Makett show in Hungary this year.
This model of King Tiger tank would have entered production in July 1945, so it is a "What if" model.
There are some differences and improvements like:
- New Entfernungsmesser 1.6 m R (PZ) range finder,
- 10.5 cm KwK L/68 main gun,
- Three-piece engine access hatch,
- New radiator system (heating),
- Infrared system Mit Infrarot- Scheinwerfer (FG 1250).
I want to try the "octopus camo" on it, if possible.

Finally I had the time for this project.
I cleaned the wheels, some small parts, reworked the rear plate, cut away the original exhausts and added “Flammvernichter” exhaust pipes, and scratched extra frontal armour protection.

Finally, builing phase done
Ready for paint!
Some minor changes I have done to this kit:
- new Flammenvernichter exhausts (from Panther), as it would have IR night vision,
- new barrel cleaning rods for the longer 10,5cm barrel
- made a new rear lamp using clear plastic,
- scratched extra armour protection protection,
- scratched tool box in the back,
- added some welds to the range viewer and because the presence of it filled the original gun sight with putty,
- removed one fender at each side and one front and one rear fender
- removed one towing rope,
- "improved the IR vision with clear parts.

Now I'm really sad I didn't buy this model while my local store stocked it! I love all the customization you've done to this, except plugging up the gun sight. I think the rangefinder is just a rangefinder and they'd still use the original gunsights for actually laying the gun? I'm not 100% on this though.

Thank you for you comment. Well, logically you are right. BUT I was looking for a picture of Schmallturm for Panther II and originally I thought it had no gun sight. Well I have seen some pictures with a gun sight... As far as I know, the first prototype of Schmallturm had a hole for monocular gun sight T.Z.F.13. The second prototype Fgst.120413, build by M.A.N. in 5/1944 had only panoramatic sight S.Z.F.1/1b. And this prototype was chosen for production.

Looking interesting. I like how fine your black & white technique looks, mine looks like someone spat a bit of white paint on top of the black usually. I can hardly wait to see this one painted.

Thank you very much for your kind words. This model is "learning by doing" for me. Trying a lot of new things. I'm glad you like the pre-shading. I started with gray primer, covering the whole model with it. Then I added black to the lower parts and white to the parts comming out.

Tamiya Porsche Turret. Lovely kit, just needs some battle damage and she's ready for paint! Can't decide on paint scheme tho...

As far I know the dotted and the
octopus camo were mainly used at the end of the war.
But since since it is a "what if", how about a digital camo?

Very nice kit. I like Porsche's Turret

Have a look on some pictures of real Tigers, maybe you'll find some inspiration there.
Good luck with it.

Thank you very much for your kind words. I was using the chipping fluid for the first time and I'm quite happy with the result... Still some pigments and streaks are needed for a final touch...

Looking fantastic, I love the spots on the octopus camo. Incredible. I would have personally preferred to have the turret camouflaged as well but I understand why it's not, and the paint job looks great overall.

Looking really good mate. I love the interpretation of the late war (post-war?) camo where paint was in short supply so bare metal and oxide coats were visible. Really evocative of what was happening at the end of conflict.

Thank you vey much indeed. I wanted to demonstrate the turret is straight from the factory - I plan to add some factory markings on it as well

Thank you very much for your kind words. I'm very happy you got the point I was trying to make with the colour selecton.
I have read that in case of Dunkelgelb 7028 shortage, Olivegrun 6003 or even Dunkelgrun RLM71 was used instead as basecoat. Or sometimes no colour

Now I'm waiting for white pencil to arrive, for factory markings on the turret. Hope to arrive soon...otherwise I have to steal one from my girlfriend's cosmetics.
