Howdy!
This is a Dragon 1/16 Sturmbannfuhrer Ardennes 1944. Mainly went with this due to the cool oak and pea dot camo to paint by hand which I've been enjoying with Bolt Action.
Lots of scraping, sanding and filling will be required with this one. Right now the TET is drying and he'll get his arms on.

I'm interested to see how this looks when built. I'm interested in 1/16 figures in general and am looking for a decent manufacturer.
On another point, this figure looks suspiciously like Jochen Peiper, convicted SS war criminal. Bit naughty of Dragon but then I could just be imagining it.

I think its the imagination.
Sturmbannfuhrer was a para-military commissioned rank roughly equivalent to a Major. Peiper was an SS-Standartenführer - equivalent of a Colonel. As far as I can tell he skipped the Sturmbannfuhrer rank jumping from the rank of Hauptsturmfuhrer (Captain) to Himmlers First Adjutant to the Standartenfuhrer of infamy....
The standard commisioned military ranks of the Heer (Wehrmacht) that correspond to these would be:
Sturmbannfuhrer = Major
Haupsturmfurer = Hauptmann
Standartenfuhrer = Oberst

Great knowledge. Those titles are a proper mouthful. Interesting how the Germans used Oberst as well as the more English sounding 'Colonel', I wonder under what circumstances it was required the various versions were used.

Interesting stuff about the ranks. Thanks for sharing!
Sanded the hands after filling with CA glue. They should be good enough for now and I'll readdress after primer if there needs to be more filling.

Don't quote me 'cos I'm far from being an expert on this. However its fairly common knowledge there wasn't a lot of love lost between the regular army (heer/Wehmacht) and the paramilitaries (SS/SA). Hence the difference in rank designations. The paramilitary one were far more grandiose - Sturmbannfuhrer for example translates as "Assault unit leader" whilst Hauptsturm fuhrer translates as "Head assault leader" - big mouthfuls when passing orders. Especially when you consider German military protocol required the rank prefixed by "Herr". Same as the Soviet/Russian protocol of "Товарищ" (Comrade). Much easier in the Allied/Western armies where it was simply "Sir".

That's going to be interesting to see the painting process. And you seem to have hand at figure painting when seeing your equipment in the pictures.
I saw those "speed paints" recently at my local hobby shop. It has an all new set up for army painters and citadel stuff. What are they for and what are they advantages ?

Speed paints or contrast paints are meant to speed up the painting process by allowing the speed paint coat to dry in a manner to depict depth. So the lower spots will collect more paint and dry a bit darker. It eliminates the need for a wash after painting or needing to blend colors to get a depth look.
I'm using a "Slap Chop" technique where you prime in black, then use a neutral grey or white to dry brush. Thus giving it highlights. The speed paint is applied over this, and has even more of a depth look to it. While not the absolute best looking way to paint a mini, it is HOURS faster.
Here's an example of a miniature that was primed in black, dry brushed in grey/white and painted solely using speed paints. Total painting time was roughly 20 minutes or so.

Starting off. The body got primed in Ultimate Grey. The Smock was then painted in AP Filthy Cape. Next layer bits will be VMC Beige Brown. This should be fun once I get it going.

Well, been a bit since I've painted. Went through some dental surgery and such. (literal titanium implant)
Had a bunch of older family pass recently. Very unfortunate.

According to the calendar this SIG ends on tomorrow night. So, I guess it's time to get cracking and finish this one out. Thankfully there isn't much more to do.
Have there been any future SIG decided on? I've been away a bit and didn't know if I missed what we're doing next.
