Diorama with cavalry and Sd.Kfz. 222 1:35 scale
Diorama with cavalry and Sd.Kfz. 222 1:35 scale
Here are some pictures of my latest project. The diorama shows mounted troops and a light recon vehicle of the 1. Kavallerie-Division (1st cavalry division) of the German Wehrmacht during the Battle of France in June 1940. The soldiers are spearheading, trying to find the way to Paris. The idea was to combine two generations of recon, i.e. mounted and armored scouts. Horses were actually very common in the Wehrmacht thoughout WW2, so wanted to show this in a diorama.

The Sd.Kfz. and the soldier sitting on it are from Tamiya, the horses and their riders are from Dragon. I added heads from Hornet and Preiser. The fountain is from Italeri, the bench from Miniart and the lamp from Tamiya. The foliage is from Green Line and Mininatur (great stuff!!!).
It took me about 6 months to finish this project, and now I can finally say I'm very happy with the result. You can find the full step by step building thread here on ISM:

This is excellent. Well done, it's a very good composition that works well. The vehicle and figures are done to a high standard and I love the foliage.

Thanks a lot, Paul.

This is superb mate I love it.
I'm going out on a limb here and please forgive as I don't wish to offend. Yes it's the old Swastika question.
If you are not allowed to show it, I would avoid showing the red flag and white circle. Forgive me mate, but there is no point to
showing them without the bit in the middle.
The composition and execution of the dio and its parts are way beyond my skills. I would sit for ages looking at each part and see the story unfolding, but that red and white flag pulls the eye to that part of the build.
How can you as a modeller try to create an historical scene when you have to leave out the Swastika. I understand (kind of) that where you live creating the center of that flag is a no-no, but in not doing so you cannot be historically correct, leave the flag off all together.

Thanks a lot for all your positive feedback on my dio, folks! It makes me even more proud of my work and I really appreciate it.
And also thanks for your constructive criticism, Deacon. I can totally see your point about the swastika flag and I agree with you. There is in fact not just a white circle in the middle of the flag on the vehicle.
I just photoshopped and censored the pics for professional reasons. I simply wanted to avoid any legal issues whatsoever and not risk my future career. Well, maybe I'm just paranoid... Anyway, you can see an "original" photo of the flag in my build thread here on ISM.

As I said, the dio is awesome and will look like that with or without the flag.
