Airfix 1/72 A-4B Skyhawk weekender!

Post by chief5437 »

Hi guys here's my second entry. Great fun building this, recommended!

Little bit about the aircraft,
The A4-B was the second variant of the Skyhawk and one of the first to see combat in the skies over Vietnam, where it was involved in the early stages of the conflict, with later version serving throughout the campaign. Due to its small size, the A4 was able to operate off the smaller World War Two era Essex Class carriers, but it could still carry a useful payload to its target.

This aircraft is depicting '512' of VA-95, the 'Green Lizards', during their deployment to Vietnam aboard USS Intrepid. The same aircraft can be seen today, aboard the Intrepid museum in New York. It is the only aircraft on display that actually flew from Intrepid's deck.

I had the opportunity to visit the museum a few years ago, well worth a visit if you're in the neighbourhood!

Here she is today, painted in her original colours.

And a couple of not so good pics from 1966.

She's there somewhere on deck, along with some skyraiders. Bragging rights if you can spot her, lol!

And here's my effort.

Thanks for looking guys! :th: :cheers2: :th:

Oh my goodness mate! That's amazing! I had one of these kits months and months ago, it was my 2nd model kit. I made a complete shambles of it lol, still missing a landing gear off it! :D
My rambling aside, that is a great effort mate! A worthy weekend of work IMO! :thumb1: :cheers2:

Very nice looking build! This plane was built to carry one nuclear bomb in it's enclosed bomb bay and to deliver it on target from a low altitude and then afterburner the hell out of there...nasty little thing the A4.
