Airfix Harrier GR.1/GR.3 Diorama

Post by Gav0909 »

Final Reveal

The time has finally come to show you all the results of my work over the last few months on my entry for this, the 2nd ISM Group Build.

I would first like to thank Lee and Paul as always for running ISM (and to me for helping :nena: ) and to Models R Go for kindly sponsoring the prizes.

So here it is, my entry. I used Airfix's new tool Harrier GR.1 and GR.3 kits in 1/72 scale, Airfix's Bedford Tactical Air Refueller and Italeris NATO Ground Crew set for the figures. Many many many thanks go out to the person who kindly helped me with this project by providing the models for me. He knows who he is.

The scene is depicting two Harriers in West Germany during the Cold War when the RAF maintained a Harrier Force deployed on field operations. This was because the thinking was that if Russia went to war, they would first take out all the airfields, and so to still have air capability, Harriers were deployed to hides, often in wooded areas. In time I may had the camo netting hide itself, but I ran out of time, so its a simple field scenario with pilots taking by the GR.1 which is going to be refuelled, and the GR.3 being marshaled into place nearby.

Your comments, criticisms and anything else is most welcome. If its crap, please feel free to say so, just do it nicely :nena:

Thanks again, and best of luck to everyone.

Excellent diorama Gav!!! I've followed this from the start and have loved every minute of it - not one, but two planes, plus a refueling truck, plus figures and to top it all a dio base as well!!!

Well done mate, all top quality work!! :th: :th:

Cheers guys!

Guppy, the new tool Harriers are lovely mate, you will enjoy building them. Wee tip, leave the underwing pylons and undercarriage off while you paint them, as it helps with masking off the undersides!

I forgot to mention that I also used some Eduard RBF tags and a Brengun Harrier boarding ladder for this build as well.

Cheers Andy ya madman!!

I only just realised that this GB ends on the 18th, not the 14th as I thought! So with that in mind I am going to try and get the camo netting at least made to go over the GR.1. This is a distinct feature of the Harrier Force in Germany and I want to represent it. It also gives me the chance to take some better pics as those above are crap.

So please kind of ignore this as I will change this thread in a few days to include better pics of my final model.

Cheers

Yessss, thats a lovely one :) I really like how this turned out. The subtle weathering on the fuel truck looks very convincing too. Not only the aircraft are the stars of the dio, the acessoires are also perfectly done.

Cheers for all the kind comments, this was a fun build for me. Bit of a shame that I didn't quite get the dio as I intended, but its still a nice wee display.

Best of luck to all other entrants. :th: :th:
